Schedule: Full-Time

Shift : 12 hours shifts- likely rotating with every other Saturday coverage. 7am- 7pm

The role you’ll contribute:

The Inpatient Wound-Ostomy Clinical Specialist RN, through education and experience, has knowledge of a specific patient population, Wound Patients, and uses clinical expertise, critical thinking skills, and theories and models of nursing practice to positively influence patient outcomes. The Inpatient Wound-Ostomy Clinical Specialist is a registered nurse who provides consultation to influence the interdisciplinary plan of care for patients, enhance the abilities of others, and effect change in the system.

The Inpatient Wound-Ostomy Clinical Specialist serves as a resource re: patient issues, providing education to patients/families/staff/community, and providing specialty direct care

The value you’ll bring to the team:

Consults as advanced practice leader to facilitate the practice of staff nurses and/or provide appropriate care for patients with difficult or chronic wounds including completion and documentation of detailed ostomy and wound assessments, consistent wound photography and direct patient care.

Consults as advanced practice leader to facilitate the practice of staff nurses and/or provide appropriate care for patients with alterations related to stomas wounds.

Demonstrates, teaches and role models proper technique for specialty dressings, wound procedures, stoma markings and appliance fittings.

Provides appropriate care for patients of all ages with urostomy, ileostomy, colostomy, wound or skin problems including timely completion and accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, education of patient/significant others.

Maintains strict infection control standards within own practice and is a resource for all associates.

Effective in the plan, implement and documentation of specialty patient education tools and other resources efficiently. Education and instructions should be adequate to minimize follow-up calls.

Utilize efficient and effective communication with SMMC departmental partners as well as others who assist with care of the ostomy or wound patients e.g. institutional care providers, home health nurses, insurance case managers, referring and consulting physicians

Provides coordination of care between Home Care, Outpatient Wound Care Center and Inpatient units facilitating appropriate plans for patient admissions and input for the discharge planning process.

Participates in quality processes including unit and inter-departmental or disease focused initiatives, the collection of data efficiently and accurately for monthly reporting and statistical trending.

Participates as an advanced practice leader in home care, acute care and clinic providing patient care and interacting with staff as a resource providing clinical education in ostomy management and role model in practice, leader in the SMMC Skin and Wound committee and participant in other committees as available and needed.

Demonstrates the ability to lead with clear instructions to team members to enable well organized quality care, directions for delegation of tasks to efficient level and participation as a team member.

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Associate’s Degree or Graduate of a Technical School

1 to 2 Years of Position-Related Experience

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

Bachelor’s Degree

2 to 5 Years of Position Related Experience

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

Kansas Registered Nurse License

BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association

Wound Nurse Certification through a National Certification Organization ie: WOCN, WCEI-Relias or NAWCCB

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:

Ostomy certification through a National Certification Organization
