Job Description
We are actively seeking a Field Inspector who will play a key role in supporting a wide range of civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, and water resources related projects. The work you do will impact ecosystems, watersheds, and communities. The initial assignment will be supporting a Construction Management Services contract for the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan, involving a 6-mile canal widening project lasting 3 years. You will support the Chief Inspector in acting as the liaison between the contractor, the SFWMD, and the engineer of record, ensuring that work is conducted in accordance with permits and engineering specifications by performing quality control inspections.
ResponsibilitiesPerform field and on-site laboratory tests on soil, geosynthetics, aggregates, and other materials primarily associated with civil construction.Observe, inspect, monitor, and document construction activities to assure compliance with relevant contract documents such as technical specifications, construction drawings, sampling plans, and CQA plans.Provide CQA monitoring on several types of construction activities.Prepare daily and weekly field reports, testing schedules, meeting minutes, and progress reports.Ensure project documentation is completed timely, accurately, and consistently with company policy and procedures.Interact with project personnel including contractors, project managers, engineers, and clients, and assist in cultivating an integrated team approach through open lines of communication and participation in work progress meetings.Assist in the preparation of field reports, work plans, health and safety documents, and the assembly of report appendices.Observe and abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the site-specific project health and safety plans and the company’s Health and Safety Management policies and procedures.Essential Skills1 year of construction inspection experience with related projects.Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, including survey and topographical drawings.Experience ensuring field activities comply with construction plans and specifications and the ability to monitor several different types of activities simultaneously.Experience with the operation of industry-typical monitoring and data collection equipment, including but not limited to laptop and handheld computers, moisture/density gauges, scales, and other equipment.Experience with multi-media sampling including soil, water, and air.Practical field experience conducting operation and maintenance of mechanical systems including simple troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical systems.Exposure to heavy civil earthwork, large-scale construction and earthmoving, and construction of dikes, dams, levees, and water control structures.Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word software programs and use of laptops and/or tablet computers.Valid driver's license.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience working with SFWMD is preferred.Geotechnical Engineering experience is a plus.ACI Level 1 certification is preferred.Self-motivated, able to work independently and with a project team to complete project tasks.Ability to provide professional-level verbal and written communication skills.High level of personal integrity with a strong work ethic.Work Environment
This position is based in a construction project trailer. You will work in a dynamic environment where you will be exposed to various construction activities and the operation of industry-typical monitoring and data collection equipment.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00
