Inspector, Watch and Protect

It is important to note that this is a bargaining unit position (IBEW Local 1997) and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening as it is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification.

The selection process will include behavioral interviews, situational interviews, knowledge, and hands on assessments to validate the candidate meets the requirements of the position. 

This position will set in the following areas: 

Vidalia, GA OR Jesup, GA  

This position requires individuals to work within a 50-mile radius of the facility.

Job Specific Summary (this section defines examples of the duties and the role of the crew leader)

Serves as company liaison between excavators, municipalities, builders, developers, landowners, logging operators, SCG Contractors and/or their agents / contractors, etc. by responding to any issues or concerns. Serve as liaison to the excavating community, internal stakeholders, and locators to ensure a proper locate is completed and no down time claim occurs. Conducts education sessions with locate contractors, excavators, landowners, and homeowners regarding protecting assets.  Stand by when any work is being performed on or near SCGs High Profile facilities by 3rd party excavators. Respond to Asset Protection High Profile facilities, incidents, and emergencies on and off our Right-of-Ways Monitor and work with the Locate contractor to correct performance. Attend large project pre-con meetings and monitor progress to protect assets. Monitor and follow-up on daily ticket load to prevent future damages. Assist with damage investigations at time of damage or during research. Attend meetings related to Asset Protection contracts and projects prior to projects beginning. Represent company at Local Damage Prevention meetings. Provide direction and oversight to field operations to improve reporting on damages per Federal and State Requirements. Support Trade Show, Industry Committees and One Call events regarding Asset Protection.  Ensure required Asset Protection documentation through Compliance Tracking Systems and SharePoint  Sites or other electronic means remain up to date. Review quality issues with management and implement improvements to protect assets. Operate and carry locating equipment.     Operate portable computer (MDT). Use small tools. (hammer, screwdriver, shovel, pliers, and wrenches) Read and comprehend physical and electronic maps. Verify any existing marks on company mains and services. Utilize equipment to identify the location of the company mains and services. Available to work overtime and on-call as necessary to meet business requirements. Safely operate company assigned vehicles in performance of assignments.

Education, Certifications/Licenses: 

Required: 

High school diploma or GED  Valid driver's license

Preferred:   

Associates /BA/BS degree or equivalent academic education and field operations experience

Related Work Experience:

Required:    

Minimum of 2 years utility field operations or related work experience; Or 1 year of primary locating experience. Experience with various types of locate equipment (Vivax, Radio detection 8100, Metro-tech, Pipe horn, or equivalent)

Preferred:  

Gas infrastructure locating experience. Asset Protection/Damage Prevention OQ’s

Specific Skills & Knowledge: 

Required: 

Knowledge of quality assurance concepts, Computer literacy - basic proficiency Well-developed interpersonal skills including influencing and/or negotiation. Operator Qualified in accordance with Company Plan: the ability to obtain within required timeline. Knowledge and experience with natural gas pipeline systems. Read and comprehend physical and electronic maps including GIS, GSCA Comprehensive knowledge of GUFPA (GA Dig Law)

Preferred:    

Knowledge of easement rights, engineering, locating and surveying principles, knowledge of real estate terminology; knowledge of terms used by developers and Bilingual skills.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:   

Must be physically able to kneel, stoop, reach above and below shoulders; frequent bending. Ability to climb in and out of manholes, Extensive digging, Carrying equipment up to 30 lbs. Must also be able to walk long distances to inspect facilitates, up to 5 miles per day. Ability to work in all types of terrain and weather conditions is required.

Behavior interview – Situational Interview - Written knowledge assessment. Possesses ability to fully perform the duties of the job as described. 

Special Note:

If multiple candidates are determined through the interview and assessment process to be adequately qualified to perform the job, the job will be awarded based on seniority.  If deemed, through the assessment process, none of the candidates are adequately qualified, the job may be awarded as a trainee position will be awarded based on seniority and the terms and conditions of the Trainee Agreement. If none of the candidates are deemed to be adequately qualified, the Company can repost the job internally or externally (must inform the Union, before posting externally) or downgrade the job.

Note: 95% of time is spent in the field. Not eligible for home basing (working from home)
