Overview
POSITION PURPOSE:
With matrixed reporting to the Trauma Informed Supports Director, this position is responsible for providing direct care to students and those participating in camp, respite, and other programs. Assists students/program participants in meeting their educational, treatment, behavioral and hygiene needs as identified. Completes all necessary documentation timely. Additionally, the Instructional Aide Float is responsible for coordinating and overseeing camp outings and assisting in the review and feedback of incident reports.
REPORTING RELATONSHIP:
• This position reports to the Instructional Aide Supervisor, who, in turn reports to the Day School Director.
• This position has a matrixed reporting relationship to the Trauma Informed Supports Director.
• May receive work direction from Teachers, the Special Education Supervisors, and the Trauma Informed Supports Director within the learning environment.
• No positions report to this position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Functions in the primary role of care provider to meet the educational support needs of the students. Follows all educational, treatment and behavioral recommendations for individual students. Documents activities as per policy. The Instructional Aide Float performs these duties in the programs or classrooms they are assigned often moving from classroom to classroom based upon need.
• Maintains awareness of all assigned students, has knowledge of their education, therapy and treatment goals and incorporates this knowledge into daily interactions with students. Follows students’ IEP and consults to help support IEPs.
• Schedules, coordinates, and oversees camp outings working in conjunction with the Instructional Aide Supervisors and Admissions Coordinators. Accompanies students and camp attendees on outings, field trips and educational trips outside of the classroom actively participating with students in order to provide supervision and support to maintain safety and create positive learning and recreational experiences.
• Facilitates learning activities for students as outlined in their lesson plans or IEP, promoting an environment of learning and support demonstrating flexibility in their approach and method to ensure individual student’s needs are met. Records student progress timely and in accordance with established policy.
• Facilitates behavior support plan and helps to model/train other staff.
• Responsible for assisting in the review of incident reports; provides direct feedback to the writer of the report on the quality of the reports as it adheres to the TRS Agency guidelines for Incident Report Writing. Reviews reports for accuracy of details and content; reviews prior to their release to funding sources and analyzes trends in data, support levels, intervention strategies, etc.
• Trained to assist in providing specific agency therapeutic practices. Responsible for following and applying all training content consistently to all audiences to facilitate consistency in staff instruction.
• Co-responsibility in Root Cause Analysis meetings.
• Communicates with Special Education Teachers, Instructional Aide Supervisors and other school staff as needed to promote meeting the educational, treatment and behavioral needs of the students. Informs classroom teacher daily of student’s activities, academics, behaviors, and medical concerns; actively participates in classroom student staffing. Consults with the Instructional Aide Supervisor and Trauma Informed Supports Director as needed to discuss departmental or school issues, concerns, or ideas.
• Conducts self in positive, respectful, and collaborative manner demonstrating proactive actions and decision making that facilitate supportive work relationships and a healthy and safe environment for the students. Uses only School approved behavior management and behavior education techniques in interactions with students and fully cooperates with leadership in the delivery of therapeutic interventions when these are deemed necessary.
• Develops and maintains collaborative relationships within and between all departments, school districts, other referral sources and individuals within the community. Positively represents TRS when out in the community.
• Functions within legal, licensing, school, and professional standards in maintaining a therapeutic and educational environment for students. Reports per policy any suspected student abuse, whether physical, sexual, mental/psychological, emotional/verbal, or financial.
• Complies with expectations outlined in organizational policies, administrative procedures, confidentiality requirements, and Employee Handbook.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Possesses upon hire or applies for within one (1) month of hire, Special Education License from Wisconsin DPI and maintains same, not allowing it to lapse. Any lapse of greater than one (1) month may be subject to corrective action and removal from assigned position.
• A minimum of one year of experience working with special needs students strongly preferred.
• Demonstrates good judgment and an ability to make quick decisions and solve problems.
• Remains calm under pressure and maintains self-composure/self-control in times of high stress or when others are excited.
