Instructional Aides Supervisor

Overview

POSITION PURPOSE:

As a member of the administrative team, the Instructional Aide Supervisor is responsible for contributing to the safety of the students and the educational environment by providing supervision of the Instructional Aides (IAs), managing the intervention training and evaluation program for staff, overseeing investigations into the interventions, and identifying and recommending any follow- up action aimed at proactive preventative measures.

REPORTING RELATONSHIP:This position reports to the Day School Director, who, in turn reports to the Executive Director, TRS.Reporting to this position are IAs and Float Aides.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Provides leadership, direction, and is a resource for all IAs at assigned site.  Responsible for preparing and managing IA schedule and classroom assignments, adjusting as student needs and mix changes relative to new admissions and those transitioning back to their district.Responsible for processing PTO requests, biweekly payroll and employee counseling/discipline as needed.Maintains awareness of students’ general status and any changes to their education, therapy, and treatment goals. Facilitates timely sharing of information with IAs so they have most current information regarding changes to students’ IEPs, behavior plans, classroom assignments, etc.Ensures proper staffing, supervision, facilitation, and coordination of additional programs as assigned/delegated by the Day School Director.  These programs can include but are not limited to ESY, Bobcat Camp, before and after school respite, field trips, etc.Responsible for termination of as well as interview and selection of new IAs, as needed.Communicates with Day School Director, Special Education Coordinator, classroom Teachers and other school staff as needed to ensure IA staffing levels meet the changing educational, treatment, and behavioral needs of the students. Informs necessary parties of any significant student or IA activity having an impact on student supervision needs.Oversees and coordinates the school’s de-escalation and intervention training for all staff. Makes sure new hires receive the initial training prior to being asked or expected to participate, oversees process for all staff to complete annual recertification training timely.  Establishes and maintains a process for obtaining and filing documentation of such training.Assists in verbal de-escalations and physical interventions as needed.Assists with and training of staff at orientation and ongoing coaching, as needed.Coordinates the activities surrounding a number of school emergency situations including designation of individuals to function as priority staff to assist with crisis intervention, leads staff and students in the event of emergency conditions (environmental, medical and/or behavioral), works with law enforcement in the event of student elopement, leads investigations into cause and contributing factors of student interventions and staff injuries, and assisting staff with completion and submission of accident/injury reports.  Oversees process for the timely completion and submission of emergency-related documents.Review and editing of intervention reports, incident reports, and accident reports.Manages student/class technology in areas of repairs, application deployment, inventory/counts, etc.Trains the trainer in current agency-approved physical intervention techniques.Responsible for championing, implementing, and supporting all agency-approved therapeutic approaches.Functions as an IA in times of high enrollment, absences in coverage, and periods of high acuity.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Bachelor’s degree in a human service field plus one year of experience working with developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed children in a residential or educational setting OR the equivalent in experience working with a similar population/role.Possesses upon hire or applies for within one (1) month of hire, a substitute teaching license with Wisconsin DPI and maintains same, not allowing it to lapse. Any lapse of greater than one (1) month may be subject to corrective action.Demonstrates good judgment and an ability to make quick decisions and solve problems.Ability to supervise/facilitate problem-solving in times of staff conflict.Remains calm under pressure and maintains self-composure/self-control in times of high stress or when others are excited.
