Position Summary

The Kinder Institute for Urban Research (KIUR) aims to improve lives through data, research, engagement,who and action. NNERPP, a program of the Kinder Institute, is a professional learning community of education research-practice partnerships (RPPs) based at the Kinder Institute for Urban Research at Rice University. Launched in 2016, NNERPP currently has over 55 member RPPs spread out across the U.S., representing a variety of partnership models, research topics, and structures. With NNERPP providing a sustainable learning infrastructure, we help catalyze the ongoing development of individual partnerships and the advancement of the field as a whole by connecting actors, mobilizing knowledge, and curating resources so that RPPs can play a crucial role in transforming the education research, practice, and policy spaces.

The Kinder Institute for Urban Research is seeking a full-time Instructional Designer that works closely with the NNERPP program directors, staff, and members to create compelling professional learning materials and content. Works with team, professional learning community members, and subject matter experts, as needed, to identify learning needs. Applies instructional design theories and methods and utilizes multimedia tools to enhance the learning process. Conducts instructional best practices research and maintains project documentation for effective development of learning materials and content. 

Workplace Requirements

This position is offered as a fully remote or hybrid work schedule combining both in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position, and the proposed salary range is $75,000 to $78,500 annually, depending on qualifications and experience. *Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.

Minimum Requirements

Master’s Degree In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year-for-year basis may be substituted 3+ years of experience in instructional design, curriculum development, or related In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related education, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year-for-year basis may be substituted Skills Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely with diverse audiences Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize work assignments with a sustained heavy workload Excellent analytical skills Demonstrated project management capabilities using established project planning tools and software Proven working experience in instructional design and with instructional technology  In-depth understanding of instructional design models and learning theories  Ability to navigate learning management systems  Proficiency in course development software and current educational technologies, software, and learning platforms Visual design skills (Canva, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar) and ability to storyboard  Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts  Ability to work independently to identify and address problems and issues

Preferences

Basic knowledge of WordPress  Prior experience with research-practice partnerships  

 Essential Functions

Create engaging learning materials and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer  Work with the leadership team, membership, and subject matter experts and identify the target audience’s professional learning needs   Identify instructional end goals and create content that matches them  Visualize instructional graphics, the user interface, and the finished product  Create and distribute visual, audio, and interactive learning tools  Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts  Apply tested instructional design theories, practice, and methods  Create supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, etc), as needed  Maintain project documentation and content folders  Implements, evaluates, and redesigns existing content to ensure it matches the learner’s current needs  Revisit and assess learning objectives  Identifies strategies for production, post-production, and delivery of resources, tools, and equipment necessary for the development of learning materials and experiences  Assist with website design and maintenance, as needed  Perform other duties as assigned
