Instructional Paraprofessional School Aide - Full Time - Behavioral Health

The Instructional Paraprofessional School Aide assists with the overall management and supervision of students, assists with crisis intervention including hands-on intervention and conflict resolution, assists with the implementation of behavioral intervention plans, and assists with the collection of data related to student progress. Incorporates the organization's Mission, Values, and Service Standard Behavior guidelines in the fulfillment of all duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of an Instructional Paraprofessional School Aide at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

 

1. Assists in the supervision of students during all aspects of the school day: arrival, departure, lunchtime, during instructional periods, during extra-curricular activities and field trips, outside the classroom between classes, and escorting students as they travel across campus.
2. Assists with implementing crisis management plans including the following: conducting or assisting with conflict resolution; supervising students during time-out; supervising and managing students not involved in the crisis; assisting with de-escalation of a pre-crisis situation; providing hands-on intervention as part of a crisis intervention team; and assisting with post-crisis follow-up activities.
3. Assists staff with the development, implementation and evaluation of behavioral intervention plans, including reporting behavioral observations and the review of pertinent behavioral and academic data.
4. Assists with gathering and maintaining data pertinent to student behavior, including daily behavior ratings, documentation of critical incidents, attendance, documenting property damage.
5. Attends staff meetings as scheduled.
6. Maintains constructive relationships with other staff members.
7. Maintains positive and appropriate relationships with students.
8. Seeks assistance from appropriate personnel whenever student related or school related problems occur.
9. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
10. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

1. Bachelor's/Associate's Degree in education, social work, psychology or related field and minimum of one year experience working with children in a group setting or a High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs with a minimum of three years experience working with children in a group setting.
2. NJDOE Criminal History Review
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
4. Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

 

Licenses and Certifications Required:

1. AHA HeartSaver First Aid CPR AED Certification, or completed within the first 90 days of employment.
