Instructional Specialist - Inpatient Behavioral Health School Program

Natchaug Hospital is Eastern Connecticut’s leading provider for children, adolescents and adults with mental illness and substance abuse addictions. We offer a variety of programs including inpatient and outpatient behavioral health, residential treatment for court-involved teenage girls, geriatric services, clinical day treatment schools and chemical dependency services. Through our multi-site network of care, we constantly strive to meet its mission in helping people find their way while educating and empowering individuals to participate in their own care and recovery. *Program Summary* Natchaug Hospital Clinical Day Treatment Schools are located at six sites throughout Eastern Connecticut. Students are referred and placed by Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) to provide education to these students on a short- or long-term basis, dependent on school needs. Natchaug CDT offers special education services to students in grades 1–12 whose social, emotional or behavioral health problems prevent them from functioning successfully in a regular school environment. Each student’s individual academic and clinical treatment plan is designed to address their special needs and return them to their regular schools as soon as possible. *Job Summary* Collaborates with students’ home districts to provide progress updates and gather student assignments. Supports students with work from their home schools and/or prepares work to be completed while on the inpatient unit at Natchaug Hospital. Collaboration and consultation with the manager and unit staff to uphold an optimal level of support, materials, and resources for each program. * Independently plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning based on variable student needs. * Provide assistance toward completion of Public-School driven assignments * Monitor progress of each student and provide verbal and written feedback * Prepare required progress and discharge reports for each student * Bachelor's degree required. (prefer degree in education, human services or related field) * one year experience working in an educational or behavioral health setting * Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Certification (upon hire) * Three years' experience working with socially and emotionally disturbed students and or substance abuse issues preferred. * Three years' experience working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds preferred. * Ability to modify and create lessons as the student community changes.
