The individual must have knowledge of behavior modification techniques and an understanding of at-risk youth. Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and de-escalation training, and an understanding of trauma and how it manifests in children and adolescents, are desirable. An understanding of the differences in developmental needs and externalizations for students is preferred. The individual must have or be eligible for appropriate certification upon hire.
