Join Cleveland Clinic Akron General's Stow Health and Wellness Center and become part of a top healthcare system in Akron. This patient-friendly facility offers a variety of primary care, emergency care and specialty services along with Lifestyles, a medically based fitness program and facility.   


The Instructor, Aquatics, is primarily responsible for implementing all aquatic programs by promoting a friendly, safe, and sanitary environment for the natatorium patrons. You will teach learn-to-swim classes, assume lifeguarding duties, and implement special programs. 


A caregiver in this position works variable shifts, 5:30am—10:00pm.  


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Develop a personal working schedule, with the Manager, Center Activities/Programs to ensure that continuous aquatic staff coverage is maintained during all open pool times. 

Design a pool program schedule with the Manager, Center Activities/Programs that offers a wide variety of programs reflecting patrons' needs and wishes and the diverse expertise of aquatic staff. 

Design special staff and patron in-services, training, workshops, and clinics, with the aquatic manager, to be offered regularly (monthly) that would promote aquatics for fitness, leisure, health, safety, and wellness. 

Implement special programs within his/her area of expertise, such as competitive swimming, synchronized swimming, boating safety, snorkeling/SCUBA diving, etc. 

Assume the lead role for all teaching, lifeguarding and maintenance duties when other lifeguards are on duty. 

Keep up with industry trends and networks with industry colleagues. Keep certifications current. Knows all Emergency Action Plans and demonstrates those skills during in-services and drills. 

Assist with administrative duties such as payroll, monthly statistical reports, and MOD shifts. 

Attend and positively contribute to weekly meetings, and all mandatory training and in-services. 

Work with aquatics department to continually assess aquatic programs and services in order to promote LifeStyles as a world-class facility. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

High school diploma or GED.  

Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Professional Rescuer first aid and Red Cross Lifeguard training. 

Obtain Red Cross Water Safety instructor certification within six months of employment and maintain currency thereafter. 

Experience in at least one aquatic specialty area (i.e. competitive swimming synchronized swimming snorkeling/SCUBA diving small craft etc.) 


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Associate or bachelor's degree in exercise physiology athletic training or related field. 

Current instructors' certification in lifeguard training CPR first aid and water safety instructions.
