The Department of Emergency Medicine is recruiting openly for any BSOM Faculty Appointment eligible Emergency Medicine faculty physician, where rank at hire shall be commensurate with experience per the WSU BSOM Faculty Affairs Policies and Procedures.

As a member of the Emergency Medicine faculty team, this position will have opportunities to directly contribute to academic development, learner experiences, community-focused research, community-focused academic programming, and the clinical practice within our local hospital(s).Department of Emergency Medicine faculty maintain their clinical practice through the BSOM practice plan, Wright State Physicians, Inc. and by way of contracts with hospital ER teams. Clinical practice type and commitment may vary based on academic teaching or academic leadership responsibilities.


WSUBSOM At-a-Glance Our community-based medical school, Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM), est. 1973, is affiliated with six major teaching hospitals, two federal institutions, and over 30 other healthcare institutions. BSOM learners get focused training with a community-based, diverse set of patients, practices, and facilities. BSOM has 13 accredited residency programs and 10 accredited fellowships, with opportunities for growth. BSOM helps educate over 212 graduate students, 510 medical students, 488 residents & fellows each year. Minimum Qualifications Prior to the effective date of appointment*, successful candidates must have: MD, DO or MBBS degree. Completed Emergency Medicine residency. Board Certification in Emergency Medicine (or Board-Eligible^) Ohio Medical License Federally-issued DEA License

^In recognition of widespread post-graduation certification delays, candidates may onboard as Board-Eligible with a non-negotiable expectation of Board Certification completion as soon as is feasible and within 12-months of hire. Such successful candidates would onboard as Instructors and only move to Assistant Professor after providing documented Board Certification.

Successful candidates will receive offers contingent upon satisfying these requirements prior to their start date.

Instructors must meet all of the requirements as Board-Eligible by their start date.
Assistant Professor candidates must meet all requirements above by their start date.
Associate Professor and Professor candidates will additionally need to meet the time of service and publication requirements by their start date, as outlined and governed by WSU BSOM Faculty Affairs policies:https://medicine.wright.edu/faculty-and-clinical-affairs/policy-3a-guidelines-for-appointment-and-promotion-for-fully-affiliated-faculty Preferred Qualifications Professional history with research, publications, and grant submissions; academic leadership or clinical leadership; or, advanced investment into UME/GME efforts (e.g., curriculum development, classroom teaching, simulation center instruction).
Professional history with the direct supervision of resident learners within the ER.
Ability to serve as a model for excellence in research and clinical care. Essential Functions and percent of time: 55% WSU BSOM Learner Education & Research Classroom didactics, with opportunities for curriculum development and course direction as assigned by the Program Director. Participation in resident recruitment efforts, learner evaluations, and mentorship. Baseline protected effort for faculty participation in committees, meetings, outreach, assigned teaching, and other assignments from the Chair and/or Program Director. Opportunities for additional protected effort for academic and clinical research.


45% Emergency Room Clinical Effort w/ Resident Learners Effort provided to BSOM’s mission, by way of the Wright State Physicians practice plan and external contracting thereunder, to provide community-focused clinical care and medical leadership to the Greater Dayton area. Generate and maintain relationships with physicians from other specialties with interactions with the ER. Facilitate exemplary learning conditions for supervised learners. Provide clinical supervision within the ER. Incentive potential via the practice plan based on hospital and shift(s). Essential Functions and percent of time (cont'd): Non-Essential Functions and percent of time: Opportunities to participate in additional Department, BSOM, or WSPI committees, workgroups, and projects shaping how the Department of Emergency Medicine contributes to BSOM’s missions. Department of Emergency Medicine academic office is located within the WSU South Campus building located at 2555 University Blvd, 1st Floor, Dayton, OH 45324. Clinical efforts within hospital Emergency Department settings—may encounter hazardous materials, some stairs.

Work week is 40 hours.
