Job Summary
The Department of Horticulture is seeking a combination position of an Instructor and an Educational Program Coordinator & Recruiter. The incumbent will hold two appointments, a 0.50 FTE , fixed term, 12-month Instructor position, with reappointment at the discretion of the Department Head, and a 0.50 FTE , ESOL /Educational Program Coordinator & Recruiter, a 12-month, professional faculty position, reflecting duties in both academic and administrative areas.

The Instructor position will provide instruction of both face-to-face and online courses in the Department of Horticulture’s Viticulture Program. This position will contribute to the development of new courses and revision of existing viticulture courses and enhance student recruitment to the discipline.
The incumbent should foster student critical thinking and advance student’s knowledge and skills in grape production (viticulture). This will be done by designing, maintaining, and carrying out educational program activities to ensure an intellectual foundation for students concerning the following aspects of viticulture: grapevine growth, physiology, vineyard production practices, and business operations management for vineyard operations. The courses serve students in multiple degree programs and provide enrichment experiences for both majors and non-majors.
The Educational Program Coordinator & Recruiter position will assist the Oregon Wine Research Institute and its respective departments (Horticulture and Food Science and Technology) to further develop the comprehensive Viticulture and Enology degree options. This may involve engagement with other departments and community college partners with viticulture and enology programs to establish a plan for flow-through degree options.
The position will also be responsible for coordinating internship opportunities and developing and executing a recruitment plan and activities to increase enrollment of undergraduate and graduate students in the program.

Key Responsibilities
50% Program Coordinator and Recruiter for the Viticulture and Enology Degree Options
+ Work closely with the Horticulture Department academic advisor(s) to align curriculum of the Viticulture and Enology option with the Horticulture undergraduate degrees.
+ Coordinate internship opportunities for students by connecting employers with students and vice versa (e.g., collate the internship information in a common place, such as the OWRI website). Work with the academic advisor to provide oversight to the internship process and grade internship reports.
+ Coordinate and lead off campus student site visits/tours with industry.
+ Participate in advising and mentoring students for internship opportunities, study-abroad, and encouraging educational enrichment opportunities (e.g., Extension workshops and non-credit offerings).
+ Establish new and/or enhance existing collaborations with community colleges and high schools and be the liaison to develop a flow-through program for students from high school through BS degree options.
+ Develop and execute a recruitment plan and activities to increase enrollment of undergraduate and graduate students in the program.
45% Instruction
Develop curriculum and provide instruction for 4-5 viticulture courses (new and existing) that train, engage and challenge student learning through on-campus courses and online distance education. This includes a site-based (on-campus) course, HORT 454/ HORT 599 Principles and Practices of Vineyard Production and an eCampus course, HORT 573 Vineyard Operations. These courses are taught to upper division undergraduate students and graduate students in Horticulture, Food Science and Technology and the College of Business’s Wine Operations Management Master of Business Administration ( MBA ).
5% Service
Participate in departmental and college governance and professional activities; serve on university committees, as time, interest and aptitude permit.

+ Demonstrated knowledge of viticulture or other perennial fruit cropping systems (e.g., orchard systems, fruit trees, or small fruits)

Minimum Qualifications for Educational Program Coordinator & Recruiter Position:
+ MS in viticulture, horticulture, agronomy, or another closely related field
+ Three years of experience in areas such as outreach, client engagement, and/or promotion in Viticulture or similar field/industry
+ Commitment to promoting and enhancing cultural diversity, educational equity, and inclusion.
+ Demonstrated organizational skills.
+ Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ General knowledge of computers and proficiency with electronic information delivery.
+ This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule
This work will occur in classrooms and office spaces of the Department of Horticulture. Work will also require off-campus field trips to OSU Corvallis Farm Unit locations and commercial vineyard and winery operations that will require driving students in OSU Motor Pool vehicles. Occasionally driving will be required for student recruitment and educational program coordination and outreach with academic partners.
