Instructor of History

The University of Virginia's College at Wise seeks to fill a one-year, non-tenure track position at the rank of instructor for the academic year 2024-25. The successful candidate will be required to teach Western Civilization survey courses as well as upper-level courses focusing on Atlantic slavery and/or the African diaspora.

Qualifications include an M.A. in History at the time of the appointment, with ABD or Ph.D. preferred. Additional qualifications include a record or evidence of effective undergraduate teaching, including teaching Western Civilization, as well as a strong commitment to liberal arts/humanities.

The University of Virginia's College at Wise, a division of the University of Virginia, is a four-year public liberal arts college located in the mountains of southwestern Virginia. Wise is a small town in a rural coal-mining region with a rich labor and environmental history.
