The Opportunity and Job Description

P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School (DRS) is seeking an experienced K-12 Music Instructor for the 2025-2026 school year.

P.K. Yonge’s Performing Arts Center houses an array of experiences in music learning for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Within our program, our music teachers collaborate to offer inclusive experiences for all students.  At the elementary school level, all students participate in a music class.  At the secondary school level students can choose to participate in our Vocal and Dramatic Arts program where they focus on singing, acting, and dancing; our traditional band program where they have experiences in marching and concert band groups; or our Modern Band program where they play “rock band” instruments in small groups and focus on songwriting, music tech, and cover tunes. Teaching responsibilities include:

Participate in the K-12 performing arts center program and curriculum planning. Select developmentally appropriate, yet challenging, music and materials for assigned courses and annual performances. Design, teach, and assess a modern music curriculum that honors student-led experiences while sequencing instruction that is relevant and appropriate for 'rock band' type musicians.   Provide accommodations as needed/ required to support academic success for a diverse group of students including both striving and advanced learners.  Incorporate effective and innovative uses of technology to support teaching, learning, and collaboration in a 1:1 learning environment. Administer and analyze formative assessments to monitor student progress and plan instructional shifts to increase achievement and success for all students. Program and prepare students for competitions, extracurricular, and/or community performances. Lead and supervise rehearsals for special programs. Communicate effectively with administrators, parents, and teaching colleagues regarding scheduling, rehearsals, upcoming performances, and students’ academic progress. Manage equipment in the performing arts facility in coordination with other members of the performing arts faculty.

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with education & experience.

Minimum Requirements: A Master’s degree; candidates with Bachelor’s degree will be considered, but will be required to obtain a Master’s degree within three years of hire. Florida teaching certification Excellent oral and written communication skills Demonstrated commitment to diversity and effective strategies for motivating and teaching students with differing abilities from a variety of backgrounds FDLE Background check Preferred Qualifications:

3+ years of K-12 teaching experience
