Instrument Sharpening Technician I

JOB SUMMARY

\n

Under the direction of the Clinical Engineering Manager, the Instrument Sharpening Technician I is accountable for installations, repairs, regular maintenance and calibration of most classes of surgical instruments at the component level.

\n

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

\n\nPerforms installations, regular maintenance, repairs, and calibrations on assigned surgical instruments to ensure proper operation and function.\nPerforms all assignments in a competent and timely way according to current policies and procedures.\nInstalls, fixes and calibrates most classes of surgical instruments at a component level.\nPerforms planned maintenance and electrical safety inspections as assigned.\nUses diagnostic service software appropriate to the equipment being serviced.\nHelps in the evaluation of new equipment, accessories and supplies and inspects incoming equipment for compliance with codes, standards, and manufacturer’s instructions.\nEstablishes and maintains files of literature for each piece of medical equipment, such as the manufacturers’ technical literature, reference standards, specifications and other documents necessary to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory agencies including TJC.\nAccurately and legibly accounts for productive time using the departments computerized maintenance management systems.\nHelps with the administrative record keeping responsibilities of the department, such as work orders, maintenance history records, PM and safety inspections, repairs, reports, and repair parts inventory; and any necessary reports to ensure accurate recording of activities for code and regulatory purposes.\nProcesses work requests and turns in completed work requests in a timely, results oriented and professional way.\n\n

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

\n\nInstrument Sharpening training from industry.\nHas and maintains a safe driving record.\nSolid knowledge of computerized systems: recordkeeping, PM, work order systems, timekeeping, etc.\nHave exceptional technical, mechanical, data-based and problem-solving skills.\nPhysically able to reach, raise, work atop, move along the ground or see and work in tight and/or dim places.\nAble to interact and communicate with all staff and management in a positive and professional way.\nAble to deal with difficult situations, resolve issues and concerns in a professional way.\nAble to work and accomplish tasks in a stressful, fast-paced environment.\n\n

QUALIFICATIONS

\n\nEDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED equivalent\nEXPERIENCE - 2 years of experience\nCERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION\n\nDrivers License (TXDL): If moving from out of state must obtain valid TX DL within 90 days of hire.\n\n\n
