Learn more at https://www.jnj.com/medtech We are searching for the best talent for an **Instrument Mechanic** to be in **San Angelo, TX.** This position is under a Collective Bargaining Agreement in a union environment and the hourly rate is **$27.65/hr** **Job Summary** The Instrument Mechanic are accountable to utilize trade knowledge and familiarity with plant and equipment for leading a continuous improvement program on specified equipment. This will include recommending, and participating in equipment improvements and PM process improvements. Independently recognize and solve problems with the ability to make critical decisions under pressure on breakdowns and works towards effectively managing deadlines in completing breakdown, maintenance and project activities. **DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES** Under limited supervision and according to prescribed procedures, responsible for operating machinery to produce and repair parts, tools and equipment using sketches, prints or instructions manuals. Duties & Responsibility include: + Must understand and demonstrate comprehension of the following but not limited to: + English language + Process specifications + Computer functions as required + Read, interpret and follow work instructions and training materials. + Pass and maintain training and certification examinations as required. + Assess and input data into departmental/ plant information systems. + **Behavioral Abilities:** + Strong Interpersonal Skills: + Ability to work and communicate well with others + Ability to give and understand instructions, both verbal and written. + Must be willing to work as a member of a team. + Must be willing to accept change and additional responsibilities and training associated with change. **LEVEL C-2** + **Cognitive Abilities:** + Maintains inventory of spare parts and notifies facilitator when parts are needed. + Able to make critical decisions under pressure. + Document all equipment service activities and modifications in the Equipment Maintenance Logbook. + Works towards effectively managing deadlines in completing projects as well as breakdown maintenance activities. + Maintains calibration records in a neat and orderly manner. + **Mechanical Abilities:** + Possesses a good understanding of instruments and instrument systems and is capable of diagnosing problems, making necessary repairs or re-calibration as required. + Is capable performing emergency repairs, routine and scheduled calibration or maintenance on instruments, components and complete instrumented systems. + Can performs instrument maintenance, repairs and calibration using such equipment as oscilloscope, thermocouple simulators, electronic volt meter, ohm meter, current tester, decade resistance boxes, weights, gauge blocks, gauge wires, humidity, hand and power tools and other equipment used in the instrument mechanic trade, etc. + Works from drawings, sketches, diagrams, tables, specifications and handbooks to install, repair and maintain instruments and instrumented systems. + Is capable of connecting and disconnecting electrical connections, pneumatic and hydraulic fittings associated with instruments or components in a control loop. + Operates in a neat and orderly manner, maintaining a clean and orderly work area, exercising care of company tools and equipment. **LEVEL C-1** **All the above plus the following** **Cognitive Abilities:** + Makes critical decisions under pressure during breakdowns. + Works with engineers and facilitator as assigned to contribute to design changes or fabrication of prototype or experimental equipment. + Ability to consistently manage a variety of tasks, some being very time consuming while under pressure of the manufacturing process. + Identify creative solutions while conforming to specifications and safety requirements. + **Mechanical Abilities:** + Understands production machinery and equipment in order to effectively diagnose, calibrate or repair complex problems. + Re-builds modifies, and contributes to design changes of recording or controlling instruments or automatic devices. + Perform highly specialized troubleshooting and repair work with little or minimal direction. + Support engineering group in developing System Design Specifications (SDS) and Control System Validation (CSV) documentation and conducting equipment process control software qualification per written protocol. + Train lower classed instrument mechanics in their growth and development process. **OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES** + Ensures departmental practices, work areas, and equipment is kept in a safe and orderly fashion. + Comply with all applicable quality management system, environmental, safety and occupational health policies. (for example, ISO 13485, ISO14001 & OSHAS18001). **Qualifications - External** + High School graduate, G.E.D. or equivalent skills, experience or training. + Minimum of two years of technical school, military training or equivalent OJT (on the job training) in an instrument related field + Standard testing techniques and practices for instrument testing and calibration of equipment. + Knowledge of instrument related diagrams, tables and specifications, etc. + Does any other work of a related nature and performs other work -related duties as assigned. Follow current compliance regulations and standards. + Must have good work habits (neatness, organizational skills, time management skills, etc.). + Basic computer and database management skills. + Interface with appropriate manufacturing representatives to ensure manufacturing operations and projects receive effective technical support. + Be able to transfer knowledge through good written and verbal skills. + Self-motivated and capable of taking a lead position in completing duties.
