Sandy Creek is a 900-megawatt coal-fired power plant located in Riesel, Texas. Consisting of one IHI supercritical pulverized coal boiler, one Toshiba steam turbine generator and Alstom air-quality control systems equipment, it is one of the largest new coal plants in the U.S., able to generate electricity for more than 900,000 Texas homes and businesses. The plant utilizes Powder River Basin coal.
Opportunity Summary
The Instrument, Controls, Electrical Technician (IC&E) is responsible for monitoring the status of all plant systems on a continuous basis. The IC&E Technician ensures that the plant meets its generating requirements while operating in a safe and efficient manner. Responsible for the safe and efficient operation, testing, inspection, and maintenance of all equipment related to an electrical generation plant. Performs work of high skill in the inspection repair, testing, adjustment, installation and removal of all electronic and electrical power plant equipment and systems.
Primary Functions
Is knowledgeable and adheres to all safety procedures including lock-out/tag-out and the use of personal protective equipment Writes and maintains work logs and hours worked in the plant CMMS (Maximo) Participates in daily preventative, scheduled, and corrective maintenance activities in a safe, effective, and timely manner Provides assistance with project clean-up and housekeeping activities as required Understands and follows regulatory requirements Establishes good working relations with teammates, team leaders, plant technical experts, and engineers Safely operates station vehicles such as forklifts, trucks, carts and man lifts Demonstrates ability to use project drawings, blueprints, and manuals Demonstrates knowledge of equipment layout and plant systems Perform preventive maintenance duties on all major electrical equipment and systems as well as emergency backup systems Conduct troubleshooting and analysis on PLC, DCS and CEMS systems Inspect repair, install and remove all types of motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and storage batteries, and work with electrical systems up to and including 13.8kV volts Participate in the administrative maintenance of the plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventive/predictive maintenance records Assist Maintenance Manager and other department managers in outage planning & budgeting Performs other duties as required by plant conditions and effectively communicate plant status to plant management as requiredNAES Safe

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical requirements include the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required. Must be able to be respirator qualified. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
This position operates on a day shift schedule. Employees will work either:
Four 10-hour shifts per week (4x10), or Five 8-hour shifts per week (5x8).The specific schedule will be determined based on operational needs and discussed during the hiring process.
Compensation
The initial hourly rate of pay will range from $42.64 to $59.71 depending on experience and qualifications.
Job Qualifications
Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school Graduation from an accredited Instrument Technician Program and two years’ work experience as a technician in a related industry desirable. Four years work experience as a technician with increasing responsibility in a related industry may be substituted for this requirement. Experience in working with voltages up to 13,800 volts highly desirable. The ideal candidate will also have experience in troubleshooting Allen Bradley PLC's Experience troubleshooting in SEL and Beckwith electronic relays is desired Experience troubleshooting Profibus systems is desired Thorough knowledge and understanding of power plant IC&E systems and equipment, electrical principles, electrical safety, electrical test equipment. Ability to understand schematics, electrical drawings, PI&Ds, ladder logic, etc. Ability to work well with others and be self-directed, as well as apply creative solutions to unique IC&E problems is desirable Excellent oral and written communication skills Skilled in the use of hand and power-driven tools Excellent organizational skills Strong personal computer skills Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license, ensuring it remains in good standing at all times.About NAES
