Instrumentation and Controls Engineer
Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to work in our Automation, Instrumentation, and Controls department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off. Hybrid work opportunities may be available for this position. You will support INL’s R&D efforts directed at introducing digital technologies (e.g., instrumentation, control, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics) for use in the commercial nuclear power sector to facilitate the transformation from a highly labor-centric to a digital-centric approach to plant operation. You will mainly support the DOE Light Water Reactor Sustainability program in our mission to help sustain the long-term operation of the nation's fleet of commercial nuclear energy facilities. *Responsibilities Include:* * Conduct digital technology research, development, and demonstrations that address the technical challenges to modernizing the current fleet of nuclear power plants. * Participate in and lead projects or tasks, including developing the overall technical approach, execution, budget, and all necessary resources to accomplish work. * Coordinate R&D efforts with other researchers and with the needs, plans, and activities of owner-operators, vendors, suppliers, other research organizations, and responsible regulatory organizations. * Initiate new collaborations with the industry, including developing non-disclosure agreements and cooperative research and development agreements, to support the development and deployment of digital technologies to the commercial sector or to support individual R&D efforts. * Present work in scientific, professional, and industry venues, and working with industry collaborators and partners at technical meetings. * Write reports and publications to share the findings. * Develop intellectual property leading to patents/copyrights and facilitating technology transfer. * Mentor junior staff, post-docs, and interns in activities related to this role. * Periodic travel may be required to support external collaborations and interactions. * This position reports to the Department Manager. *Minimum Requirements: * * Level 3: Bachelor’s and 5 years of experience. Master’s and 2 years of experience. PhD and 2 years of experience. * Level 4:Bachelor’s and 9 years of experience. Master’s and 6 years of experience. PhD and 4 years of experience. * In-depth knowledge of the technical and regulatory barriers to the use of digital technologies in nuclear power plants * Broad nuclear industry contacts and working relationships *Job Information: * * The pay range for this position is: Level 3 ($109,260.00 - $223,908.00) / Level 4 ($130,980.00 - $268,680.00).
