Instruments Technician

The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for an Instruments Technician to provide preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs and calibration to analytical instruments: HPLC, GC, Spectrophotometer, electronic and mechanical equipment.

The Instruments Technician will perform installation and train customers in the equipment uses at customer sites along with technical training on products. They will also document and report all repairs and product failures.

This role will be a full-time remote role with 100% travel to visit customer sites and our Manati, PR office.

What we’re looking for: 

Education: Associates degree required.Experience:Minimum of 5 years related technical experience.Additional Qualifications: Must be bilingual (English and Spanish-fluent in writing and reading).Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.Analytical skills - Understands the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.Ability to maintain good relationship and communication with the client and service personnel.     Ability to load weights from 25 to 200 pounds to calibrate weighting equipment or to transport it.

How you will thrive and create an impact: 

Travel to customer site to provide services (installations, maintenance or calibrations).Adapt equipment and technology to serve user needs. Execute sequence of testing and calibration program for instruments, scales and balances and equipment according to blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, standards operating procedures and other specifications.Diagnose equipment failures (breakdowns) and repair per manufacturers guidelines.Perform preventative and corrective maintenance of test apparatus and peripheral equipment.Confer with clients, group leader, and other technical workers to assist with equipment installation, maintenance, and repair techniques.Analyze and convert test data, using mathematical formulas, and report results and proposed modifications.Set up test equipment and conduct tests on scales and balance and instrument equipment.Disassemble and reassemble instruments and equipment, using hand tools, and inspect instruments and equipment for defects.Sketch plans for developing jigs, fixtures, instruments, and related nonstandard apparatus.Modify performance and operation of component parts to specifications, using test equipment and precision instruments.Conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.Consult with clients on a regular basis regarding usage, placement and potential future needs of the equipment.Recommend corrective actions to the customer when needed.Train customer on how to use the equipment.Maintain technical skills through ongoing manufacturer’s certification and continuing education.
