Insurance Operations Supervisor – Surplus Lines

Insurance Operations Supervisor – Surplus Lines

Insurance Operations is responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the company’s insurance solutions. We provide administrative and technical support to client-facing brokers and provide support to clients by responding to insurance transaction queries. An Insurance Operations Supervisor is a seasoned leader who guides an experienced support team, making sure they are productive and meeting objectives, while helping them to resolve the more difficult issues they face.

What can you expect?

The Surplus Lines Supervisor works closely with department specialists and the Compliance team to ensure surplus lines tax filings are completed on time and in compliance with individual state requirements

You will supervise a small, highly skilled team, managing resource planning, monitoring workflows, overseeing day-to-day operational activities, and measuring and reporting on team productivity and individual performance to ensure a productive and engaged team

You will be responsible for leading your direct reports to understand if surplus lines placements are compliant prior to binding, accuracy of invoicing, and that appropriate documentation is provided for on-time compliant surplus lines filings

You will collaborate with the Marsh Compliance team to raise issues leading to potential state audits and assist in data collection, both of which are key functions of this role

You will drive continuous improvement for the department as well as the company

You will attend a robust training program of classroom, side-by-side, and on-the-job training; we will provide the required insurance knowledge to be successful while learning our systems

We will count on you to:

Manage a team of Surplus Lines Specialists, including coaching and development, conducting performance reviews, and ensuring the consistency, quality, and accuracy of work being completed

Assist in identifying knowledge gaps throughout our US brokerage population and leverage Specialists to train where necessary

Continuously identify areas for process improvement to increase efficiencies, as well as participate, monitor, and/or oversee the initiatives

Maintain and consistently review staffing needs

Keep current on pending and actual changes to surplus lines regulations

Analyze data to determine trends, and present those findings across teams

What you need to have: 

5+ years of total work experience, with 3+ years in commercial lines insurance

Minimum 3 years of department/team management experience in an office environment

Intermediate Microsoft Office proficiency - knowledge of basic Excel formulas, pivot tables, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook

Technical reporting capabilities - ability to analyze data from multiple sources, pull out pertinent data, process data in an Excel spreadsheet, and collate findings into a report to present week-over-week, month-over-month, and year-over-year trends

Experience with root cause analysis

Must have excellent written and oral communication skills – able to clearly articulate issues, problems and resolutions within this field

What makes you stand out?

Bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience working with Surplus Lines, specifically dealing with Surplus Lines taxes

5+ years of insurance experience preferred
