INTAKE/UTILIZATION COORDINATOR-PSYCHIATRY
Job Overview:

This position performs an initial screening for psychiatric patients in the ED via face to face or Telehealth interviews. The intake staff reviews the clinical data with the ED physician to determine the level of care needed. This may include inpatient admission, transfer, or discharge. Intake also facilitiates transfers from Tri-Health Medical and external medical services. They do this by acting as a liaison between the referral source, admitting psychiatrist, and behavioral health inpatient units. Intake assists with community referrals and maintaining expedient flow of ED patients to behavioral health and non-behavioral health units. This includes analysis of clinical information presented with comparison to established national clinical criteria to determine appropriate levels of care. This staff works indepedently with a high level of autonomy and decision making surronding high dollar services and revenue. Experience working in a multi-disciplinary setting is preferred. Excellent communication skills are mandatory. The candidate must be competent in evaluating psychiatric symptoms and making level of care recommendations based on the patient's presentation. The candidate must possess excellent time management skills and be able to prioritize job duties to accommodate multiple competing needs. . 

Job Requirements:

Associate's Degree or Diploma in Nursing
Registered Nurse 
RN (Nursing)
Competent at assessing for psychiatric symptoms and making level of care recommendations based on presenting issues
Experience Clinical Psychiatric Nursing or Psychiatric Social Worker 
Substance Abuse experience

Job Responsibilities:

Performs screening for psychiatric patients in the Emergency Department. Teamwork, communication, problem solving, conflict resolution. 
Facilitates in house psychiatric consultations
Documentation: documents as required referrals, consultations, insurance calls. Quality Assessment: assess for quality indicators, documents quailty indicators, differenctiates between morbidity and mortality outcomes. Reports as indicatied to manager, medical dir. 
Collaborates with the emergency room nurses as well as the emergency room physician to determine level of care.
Acts as a liaison between the external community and the hospital to facilitate appropriate transfers both to and from TriHealth. Applies the principals of UR: admission orders, levels of care, documents current status, communicates with attending physicians. 
Demonstrates effective oral/written communication skills in negotiation to achieve desired result of approval of services or reversal of denial. 
Demonstrates proficient Knowledge with determining level of care needs based on clinical presentation and matching these needs with the appropriate level of care and/or community resources.
