**Division Chair: Surgical Critical Care, Cleveland Clinic** Cleveland Clinic, one of the world's most distinguished academic medical centers announces a search for Division Chair of Surgical Critical Care within the Department of Anesthesiology and the Critical Care Center in the Integrated Hospital Care Institute. The ideal candidate should have leadership experience, a reputation for clinical excellence, understand the educational, research, and clinical practice standards of critical care and resuscitation, strong collaborative interprofessional skills, program building experience, mentorship track records, and have experience working within a variety of practice settings. In collaboration with the Critical Care Center Director, the Division Chair will have oversight of the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) and Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) on our Main Campus, several ICUs within our community hospitals, and oversight of surgical intensive care throughout the Cleveland Clinic enterprise. The Division Chair will have a collaborative relationship with the subspecialty divisions of Multi-Specialty and Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology, Community Anesthesiology Practice, Medical Critical Care, Neurocritical Care, Cardiac Critical Care, and Emergency Medicine, where several Division physicians have dual appointments. The Chair will also have an important role within the Enterprise Critical Care Center, which collaborates across all Institutes and Markets. A faculty appointment at a rank commensurate with academic experience and accomplishments is available at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. Scope The Division consists of 86 staff and 130 APPs to support our Main Campus CVICU and SICU (130 beds) and a mix of surgical and medical ICUs within our community hospitals (49 beds) in northeast Ohio. The Division has a collaborative relationship with the SICU in Weston, Florida. The Division boasts its own ACGME-accredited anesthesiology critical care fellowship program (10 fellows per year) consisting of multi-specialty trainees, and a focused cardiovascular ICU dedicated non-ACGME fellowship based on Main Campus. Our staff intensivists (anesthesiology, surgical, medical, emergency medicine, neurological based primary specialty) have hospital appointments across multiple hospitals and practice settings throughout northeast Ohio, which allows for flexible staffing that is critical in today's environment. The Division Chair partners closely with Center and Department leadership, hospital leadership, nursing leadership, and surgical colleagues to provide critical care consistently throughout the organization. Integrated Hospital Care Institute The Integrated Hospital-Care Institute (IHI) at the Cleveland Clinic Health System (CCHS) is home to nearly 4,000 caregivers and a faculty of over 1,200 physicians and scientists in Ohio, Florida, London, and Abu-Dhabi. The Integrated Hospital-Care Institute (IHI) at the Cleveland Clinic is a unique model that does not exist elsewhere in healthcare. IHI brings hospital-based services under one umbrella by bringing together 5 Departments (Emergency Services, Hospital Medicine, Pulmonary-Critical Care, Infectious Disease, and Anesthesiology) that are home to 12 divisions. The Institute also has 2 Centers (Critical Care and Perioperative Medicine) designed to organize the clinical, education, and research activities of these services across the entire Cleveland Clinic Health System. The leaders, providers, educators, researchers, and caregivers of IHI work collaboratively with hospitals across geographies to innovate and reimagine the patient journey as we provide seamless access to our high-quality care and cutting-edge research to more patients in more locations in the United States and around the globe. Graduate medical education programs in IHI include over 150 residents and over 100 fellows in 14 specialties and subspecialties in addition to an APP-School of Nurse Anesthesia and APP-ICU Fellowship. We conduct research activities across the spectrum of basic, translational, and clinical research with over 650 IRB-approved projects supported by over 100 federal grants, 150 industry sponsored trials, and various foundation awards. IHI caregivers collaborate with all other institutes and support all 23 Cleveland Clinic System Hospitals in all markets and submarkets with a focus on Quality, Throughput and Cost Efficiency (QTC) delivered by our almost 4000 caregivers. Department of Anesthesiology Cleveland Clinic's Anesthesiology Department unites all specialists in multi-specialty, and cardiothoracic anesthesiology, and surgical critical care, with the community hospital anesthesiology practice, research, and graduate medical education within one fully integrated model of care to improve the medical management and quality of life for our patients. Our organizational structure is an employed model, with staff anesthesiologists medically directing residents, fellows, certified registered nurse anesthetists, and certified anesthesiologist assistants. The mission of the Anesthesiology Department is to be a recognized leader in perioperative care through education, research, and innovation within an environment that creates a safe, effective, efficient, and best experience for our patients and caregivers. We accomplish this vision by collaborating with each other, other institutes and Departments within the Cleveland Clinic, and with outside entities. Our internationally recognized medical staff and dedicated support team provide care for more than 230,000 procedures annually. One of the largest anesthesiology residency training programs in the country is based at our Main Campus, with over 100 residents and 60 fellows within our various fellowship programs, offering subspecialized training in cardiothoracic, regional/acute pain, transplant, obstetrical, pediatric, ambulatory, and neuro-anesthesia, pain management, critical care, and research. In total, our three (Main Campus, South Pointe, and Florida) post-graduate training programs provide many opportunities to recruit new staff to the Department. Similarly, the Cleveland Clinic's own School of Nurse Anesthesia, Case Western's Nurse Anesthesia and Anesthesiology Assistant programs, and other regional nurse anesthesia programs provide opportunities to recruit CRNAs and CAAs to our Department. Critical Care Center The Critical Care Center is established within the Integrated Hospital-Care Institute as a collaborative ICU organization that is matrixed across clinical disciplines and institutes. Forty-seven unique ICUs comprise the Center, accounting for more than 900 ICU beds, across four markets: Northeast Ohio, Florida, Abu Dhabi, and London (England). It is one of the largest critical care organizations in the world and it aims to cohesively align all critical care components across markets and submarkets. The Center's vision is to provide the safest longitudinal compassionate care to critically ill patients and their families based on a culture of collaboration, and evidence–based best practices; to be the best place to work for our team members; and to be a leading national and international Critical Care Center in healthcare delivery, education, research, and innovation. The Center is committed to the concept of Continuum of Care to our critically ill patients, and to ICU survivors and their families from the emergency room to post-ICU recovery clinics. The Center has oversight and responsibility to develop vision, future directions, strategies, and objectives and key results (OKRs) to align Critical Care Divisions and ICUs across the enterprise. The Center is responsible for establishing cross-Institute ICU Quality, Patient Safety & Experience (QPSE) goals, standardizing ICU best practices and staffing coverage models to provide highly reliable and safe care, optimizing ICU cost of care and patient care transitions and throughput across the continuum of care, coordinating Critical Care research and education efforts across institutes and markets, and has oversight of the Tele-Critical Care program and critical response and resuscitation through the enterprise Resuscitation Operations Council.
