Intellectual Property Paralegal

DEKA Research and Development is seeking a full-time Intellectual Property Paralegal to join our very active IP Team to provide administrative support to Intellectual Property Counsel on all matters as required.

How the IP Paralegal makes an impact:

Prepare for filing and file with the USPTO patent applications, office actions, and trademark documents and interact with USPTO personnel as required.Maintain Intellectual Property files.Prepare Information Disclosure Statements.Prepare Assignments and Powers of Attorney, and coordinate with signatories for document execution.Provide regular docket reports from the docketing database to include current schedule of current patent and trademark matters that require responses, project summary updates, foreign filing listings, family trees of projects, and other ad-hoc reports requested by Intellectual Property Counsel.Review of correspondence from outside counsel and update the internal IP docketing database with deadlines and other pertinent data as required.Enter new patent and trademark matters into the docketing database.Review matters to ensure that outside counsel is responding in a timely manner.Work closely with other company personnel to ensure their timely response.Review monthly outside law firm invoices; prepare a summary of charges; enter into cost database and forward to Intellectual Property Counsel for approval.

Skills needed for an IP Paralegal at DEKA:

3 or more years of IP paralegal experienceProfessional demeanor, attention to detail, high quality work standards, and the ability to prioritize and perform effectively under pressureExcellent organizational and interpersonal skillsUnusually strong attention to detailAbility to act independently to meet deadlinesStrong computer skills with experience in WORD, EXCEL, Outlook, and with the USPTO’s EFS, PAIR, and Financial ManagerProficiency with ACCESS-based docketing databases. (Experience with CPi is preferred)
