Summary You will serve as a scientist, mathematician, or engineer performing all-source, scientific, and technical intelligence (S&TI) analysis on naval platforms and/or systems. You will apply engineering, modeling, and mathematical skills to engineering assessments of your assigned platform/system, their associated components, and technologies.This position is located at FARRAGUT TECHNICAL ANALYSIS CENTER in Suitland, Maryland. Responsibilities You will use innovative scientific and all-source analysis methodologies and processes to evaluate the physical design, propulsion, aerodynamics, and overall system capabilities of foreign naval missile systems. You will apply engineering, modeling, and mathematical skills to contribute to engineering assessments of the assigned platform/systems, their associated components, and technologies. You will independently identify intelligence gaps and use engineering experience and expertise to fill those gaps. You will develop, tailor, prepare, and present intelligence assessments in written reports, briefs, and other tailored products. You will coordinate within the organization and the broader Intelligence Community. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GG-07 Qualifications: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS/GG-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector such as: 1) Support senior analysts with all-source intelligence analysis. 2) Assist in the collection of intelligence through appropriate tasking methods. 3) Assist in the preparation of engineering analyses or assessments. GG-09 Qualifications: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS/GG-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector such as: (1) Conduct all-source intelligence analysis to discern information on platforms and systems. (2) Collect intelligence through appropriate tasking methods. (3) Prepare engineering analysis or assessments to test platforms or systems. Degree -- Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.orB. Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: Professional registration or licensure -- Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration. For example, an applicant who attains registration through a State Board's eminence provision as a manufacturing engineer typically would be rated eligible only for manufacturing engineering positions. Related curriculum -- Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions. Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In either A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound. GG-1320-07/09 Basic Requirements: A. Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. GG-1520-07/09 Basic Requirements: A. Degree: mathematics; or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in mathematics (including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics), as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The total course work in either A or B above must have included differential and integral calculus and, in addition, four advanced mathematics courses requiring calculus or equivalent mathematics courses as a prerequisite. GG-1550-13 Basic Requirements: Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. Evaluation of Education Applicants should have sufficient knowledge to understand the fundamental concepts and techniques of computer science. Courses designed to provide an introduction to computer science techniques and methodologies, to problems of system design, and to other specialized fields are acceptable. Courses or experience in teaching elementary, business, or shop mathematics are not acceptable.
