Please see Additional Information section below.*** You will serve as an INTERDISCIPLINARY SOCIAL WORKER/PSYCHOLOGIST in Manpower and Reserves Affairs Department of MARINE CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI. Responsibilities You will provide thorough assessment, non-medical counseling, and consultation services to clients who present for care with substance use risk factors and/or disorders. You will interview individuals and family members to explore and analyze factors influencing personality development and family structure in relation to the development. You will devise treatment plans for the resolution of personal, social, or environmental difficulties related to substance abuse. You will identify crisis situations (e.g., suicidal or homicide risk, danger of physical or sexual abuse to family members, increased risk of further family violence) through clinical assessment to provide crisis intervention and safety planning. You will maintain client records, statistical reports, and other correspondence (e.g. case histories, assessments, progress, summary notes) in compliance with organizational and professional counseling requirements. You will coordinate case management services (e.g., assess follow-through with treatment recommendations) to determine if additional referrals or resources are needed. You will work with clients to set goals and objectives for patient treatment in counseling sessions. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector providing substance abuse treatment or counseling services, case management, assessment and referral. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Conditions of Employment continued: ~ Must possess a Substance Abuse Certification (Alcohol and Drug Counselor II, International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium substance abuse counselor certification, or state equivalent) that was acquired through passing a proctored exam, from a state or nationally accredited certifying body is required. Education Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess: 0180: Degree: major or equivalent in psychology 0185: Degree: social work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. SUBSTITUTING EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: 0180/0185: 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
