Interior Designer - Corporate EngineeringPosition Overview
Shaw Industries Corporate Engineering (CE) supports the corporation’s manufacturing, distribution, and administrative facilities. Although based primarily in Dalton, GA, CE is deployed on projects both domestically and internationally. The department offers feasibility studies, high-level and detailed budget estimates, engineering design, project management, consulting, forensic investigations, and CAD services. CE includes specialists to meet the needs of each business segment, divided into four support groups: Fibers & Yarn, Carpet & Backing, Hard Surfaces, and Construction & Global Facilities. The staff comprises mechanical, electrical, civil, and structural engineers, construction project managers, CAD designers, and administrative personnel.
Position Overview:
The Interior Designer position is within the Corporate Engineering Construction and Global Facilities Team. This role reports to the Global Facilities Manager and will provide interior design support to all areas of the organization. The Interior Designer will lead efforts to set design direction and strategies which will foster associate experience, productivity and well-being. The designer will work with a team of project managers, facility managers and technical resources while partnering with our Corporate Communications and Marketing leaders to meet the needs of Shaw Corporate Facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead planning and design efforts in coordination with Shaw’s Corporate Brand team and Corporate Engineering to develop workplace strategy for interior and exterior environments.
Advise and support key stakeholders on interior design processes – space planning, schematic design, design development, furniture & finish selections.
Coordinate with other professionals, such as project managers, general contractors, architects, designers and outsourced service providers to ensure project success.
Review construction drawings, furniture and finish specifications for brand continuity.
Provide ongoing interior design support for Corporate Engineering team members and other areas of corporate collaboration including furniture, finishes, artwork and accessories. This includes the development of furniture plans and specification packages, finish packages, scope and conceptual packages for approvals, as well as product recommendations and consultation.
Use computer software to provide conceptual design, design development, and other drawings of interior and/or exterior projects.
Maintain awareness of pertinent workplace trends, interior design and architectural industry knowledge and product innovations with focus on Shaw branded products.
Support team project management activities by leading small-scale projects.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or Architecture
6 – 8 years of design experience with focus in corporate interior environments
Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite strongly preferred
A deep understanding and experience in all phases of the design process and of material and furniture selections, specifications, and ordering processes
Ability to foster a culture of change, innovation and creativity.
Superior interpersonal and verbal communication skills to successfully interact with project stakeholders, partners, vendors and senior leadership.
Excellent written skills for producing specifications, project reports and communications with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
Self-motivated, research driven, disciplined with strong organizational skills
Ability to manage a diverse workload supporting the various scopes of Shaw Facilities
Light travel, as required, primarily in the southeastern US.
