The Data Environments and Engineering Department (L146) in the Modeling & Analysis Innovation Center is seeking highly motivated, adaptive, and enthusiastic candidates with a wide variety of interests and a foundation of skills in systems engineering, software engineering, information systems, or data engineering to join our department as an Intermediate Data Engineer. Candidates should have a strong interest in addressing and solving challenges related to capturing, managing, and sharing data that support decision-making and enable mission processes.Roles and Responsibilities:Working with experienced project teams and under the guidance of data environments and engineering mentors, project tasks may include:Developing data requirements documentation Performing source-to-target data mappings Documenting and implementing data transformation rules to meet the requirements for system interfaces and data integration projects Collecting and integrating project data Profiling project data sources Preparing data and conducting data analysis Designing and building prototypes for ingesting, curating, and analyzing data at scale.Collecting and preparing data for use by data scientists and analystsMigrating data to the Cloud Supporting stakeholder interviews Leading or supporting sponsor work conducted in a lab environmentResearching and evaluating data management tools and technologies Participating in knowledge sharing and best practices through MITRE-led Technical Exchange Meetings (TEMs), workshops, research, and platform development Minimum QualificationsTypically, it requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of related experience, an advanced degree without experience, or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience.Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, software engineering, information systems, or data management Capable of obtaining and maintaining a DoD Secret clearanceProficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as Python, R, Scala, C++, Java, C#, and JavaScriptExperience with one or more database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, MongoDB, Neo4j)Working knowledge of ETL/ELT processes, tools, and frameworksStrong problem-solving, systems thinking, planning, organizational and interpersonal skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to describe and present complex technical concepts in relatable termsThis position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-sitePreferred Qualifications:Interest in developing and applying data management and data engineering domain skills to organizational, system, and data sharing-related challenges and concernsKnowledge of cloud platforms and technologies such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.Knowledge of data management practices that align with modern/emerging analytics techniquesApplying statistical analysis methods and toolsFamiliarity with data flow and pipeline frameworks, like Kafka, NiFi, Spark, Airflow, and Hadoop.Familiarity with microservice architectures, data warehousing, data fabric, data lakes, and data meshData Engineering skills include:Expertise in preparing data for analysisStrong understanding of data science conceptsExperience with BI toolsUnderstanding ML frameworks, algorithms, and librariesUnderstand the use of data in AI/ML and LLMUnderstanding of conceptual, logical, and physical data modelingExperience performing source-to-target data mappingKnowledge of natural language processing techniquesExisting DoD clearanceThis requisition requires the candidate to have a minimum of the following clearance(s):
