The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.
We have an exciting opportunity for an intern to work closely with the Community Impact Team to assist in the implementation of a sustainable culture of health within the diverse & vulnerable communities in Greater New Orleans, LA area. Individuals will obtain practical experience and receive hands-on training in various disciplines, particularly regarding our organizational priority _Nation of Lifesavers_ . Nation of Lifesavers is a multi-year initiative that aims to improve the survival rate for the more than 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests each year. The goal of the initiative is to turn bystanders into lifesavers, so that in the time of cardiac emergency anyone, anywhere is prepared and empowered to become a vital link in the chain of survival and provide CPR.
The intern will enhance their existing skill set by learning strategies to improve health outcomes in diverse communities by supporting nutrition security work, health education strategies, and creating culturally competent resources that can be utilized by communities to prevent or manage cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and stroke.

**Internship Overview**
+ Time Commitment: 20 hours per week
+ Internship Duration: 5/19/25 – 8/22/25
+ Location: **Hybrid Position - Intern must be based in the Greater New Orleans, LA area**
+ Salary: $23 per hour

**Responsibilities**
+ Assist with timely distribution of CPR kits.
+ Coordinating logistics for distribution of AED subawards.
+ Providing guidance and assistance to identified partners as needed.
+ Assist in organizing/implementing community and culturally appropriate health initiatives and programs throughout communities.
+ Support work around community impact priority issues, including hypertension control, nutrition insecurity, community response, and tobacco/vaping.
+ Assist with internal program evaluations.
+ Identify impact stories for showcasing, enhance via research and interviews, and develop communication pieces for online or offline sharing.
+ Create and manage a volunteer database and communications; respond to volunteer inquiries with upcoming opportunities to provide CPR support at community events.
+ Identify, review, and develop resources that meet community health needs such as playbooks and other tools.
+ Explore state or local organizations that align with the Association’s priority issue areas and identify opportunities for collaboration.
+ Attend internal and external meetings as requested, including health fairs and community events as necessary.
**Qualifications**
+ **Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in public health, community health, advocacy or other related degree program.**
+ **Willingness to travel to and from local community events and local meetings** .
+ Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
+ Ability to learn quickly and have focused attention to detail.
+ Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, and basic knowledge of Canva.
+ **Required Equipment: Reliable Wi-Fi connection and reliable transportation.**
+ **Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 9am-5pm.**
+ **Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.**
