Westinghouse is seeking Placement Students for Process and Mechanical Engineering Placements. 

  

The successful applicant will join the EMEA Nuclear Fuel New Business team in the UK and complete their placement at Springfields, our nuclear fuel manufacture facility located near Preston, Lancashire, UK. 

  

 Your Day-to-Day:  

 

General: 

Assume technical, engineering responsibility for independently delivering standard engineering design tasks with standard techniques as an independent author, with the guidance/review from more senior engineers. 

Work effectively in a team with more senior engineers in the delivery of non-standard engineering design tasks or on tasks concerning the application of standard tools to more complex chemical processes.  

Use effective verbal and written communication to explain problems, solutions and proposals with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 

Develop and maintain an effective business relationship with Westinghouse customers. 

  

Key Responsibilities: 

A personal commitment to maintaining the nuclear safety culture at Westinghouse and compliance with company policies. 

Providing support in the development of technical solutions throughout the project lifecycle. This may include contribution to reviews and discussions and the contribution to, production of and review of a wide range of project documentation. 

Use verbal and written communications to define, progress and report or present back on assigned work packages. This may include communications within the project team, internal Westinghouse stakeholders, suppliers, clients and regulators and others as appropriate. 

Develop and maintain good working relationships with team members, internal stakeholder and clients or partner organizations. 

  

Personal Attributes: 

Ability to quickly learn to evaluate, select and utilize standards, techniques, procedures and criteria for development of engineering design documents including calculations and specifications. 

Self-motivated, capable determining required activities, prioritizing, and scheduling tasks whilst progressing towards an agreed project deliverable.

Who You Are:  


As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:  

Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in a relevant engineering degree – e.g. those related to Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or environmental engineering. Other disciplines will also be considered. 

Should be over 18 years of age. 

Must already be eligible to work in the UK legally. 

Ability to work for a 12 month period starting August-September 2025 (start date flexible). 

Ability to work independently using knowledge obtained from core university courses. 

Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
