Join a team that has the environment down to a science. **Your Opportunity** Stantec is seeking an intern to support our team of environmental professionals in Brighton, MI. As an intern you can expect to carry out a variety of different tasks related to ecological restoration implementation, water resources management, environmental investigation, compliance, and remediation. You will support the completion of project level work including data management, field work, report preparation, and design components on environmental remediation projects. Significant decisions and deliverables reviewed by higher level staff. Our projects involve design and implementation of nature-based solutions, green stormwater infrastructure, flood protection and risk reduction, dams and river diversions, land development, stream restoration, and other aspects of civil engineering. Candidates should be highly motivated and dependable students who are taking or have taken water resources and other civil engineering courses. This is a terrific opportunity for a college student to support a number of exciting local and national projects. As a part-time intern you will work in our Brighton, MI office approximately 10-15 hours/week during the school year and approximately 40 hours/week during the summer. Work hours may exceed 40-hours/week when conducting summer field work. **Your Key Responsibilities** + Undertake as needed field work including construction observation, water, soil, and air sampling, natural areas assessment and other field reconnaissance. + Invasive species identification and control (herbicide application, cutting, and mowing), native seeding and planting, prescribed burning, and brush and tree removal. Depending on experience and proficiency, equipment operation and tools to conduct the above tasks may include the use of light and heavy-duty trucks and trailers, chainsaws, brush saws, herbicide sprayers, ATVs / UTVs, tractors, and skid loaders with various attachments. + Compile and manage field data to be used in project work. + Coordinate with senior level staff and/or multidisciplinary team members to ensure that the project's needs are met in a timely and effective manner. + May be delegated responsibility for designing and implementing projects within competencies and experience. + Follow established safety standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure safety of yourself and your teams while completing assignments. + Implementing a safety-first mindset and applying all established health, safety, security, and environment (HSSE) standards during all office and field operations. **Qualifications** **Your Capabilities and Credentials** + Highly motivated and dependable + Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and take direction. + Willingness to learn new skills while undertaking work assignments. + A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint (AutoCAD experience a plus). + Desired software applications include: AutoCAD Civil 3D and ArcMap/GIS. + Exposure to H&H software applications including HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM a plus. + Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. + Must have good organizational skills, be reliable, detail orientated and capable of working independently on assigned tasks. + Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and take direction. + Strong technical writing, interpersonal, and communication skills. + Ability to travel regionally and locally as required for project needs. + Must have a safe driving record and valid driver’s license. + Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
