We are looking for an enthusiastic and purpose-driven undergraduate student who seeks to learn new scientific skills while contributing to our urgent mission of finding new treatments for rare diseases that have no cure. Reporting to Scientist II, the candidate will join the Research team that supports advancement of innovative AAV and RNA based therapeutics. The candidate will be responsible for assisting in the development and execution of tissue and in vitro cell-based assays.

Work Model: 

Core Lab & Ops: This role typically requires that the majority of the work be conducted on-site and thus will be subject to certain on-site safety protocols during the pandemic.

Responsibilities: Learn the theory and practical steps of robust, reproducible histology in fixed frozen and FFPE tissues and cell culture/organoids. Learn and perform embedding, sectioning, and tissue staining procedures including immunostaining (IHC) and in situ hybridization (ISH) Acquire images using fluorescent and brightfield microscopy Analyze captured images using image analysis software. Learn and execute molecular biology workflows including DNA isolation, PCR, and gel electrophoresis. Maintain highly detailed documentation of experiments conducted. Compile data into slide decks and present at team meetings. Work closely with scientists from different research groups, ensuring good communication and collaboration Create/update work instructions and SOP documents as necessary. Support the team with lab maintenance, including freezer inventory organization and routine maintenance of lab instruments. Requirements: Actively enrolled in pursuing an undergraduate degree in one of the following fields: Cell and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related scientific discipline Previous experience in a formal lab setting Experience with basic molecular biology techniques Understanding of biochemical methods, such as qPCR, ELISA, and Western Blot Familiarity with tissue staining and microscopy, such as immunohistochemistry and fluorescence Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment Strong collaboration, team-working skills, and communication skills Strong interpersonal skills with high attention to detail Physical Demand Requirements: Stand for extended periods of time with periodic stooping / bending / kneeling Able to lift, push, pull up to 50lbs. Climb ladders and stairs of various heights. Work in a lab environment requiring special protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet, and body.
