Autodesk Research is looking for an intern to impact the future of digital design and manufacturing, utilizing machine learning skills to help realize the future of designing and making things. In this role you will undertake a project to develop new product design tools and technologies that use AI and machine learning. You will support the Autodesk Research team by investigating new and innovative approaches to connecting and augmenting product design data. You will have the opportunity to work alongside a highly skilled team of other research scientists and collaborate with diverse stakeholders in academia and industry. You will also have flexibility to explore and contribute to a range of research projects centered around generative design for product assemblies, leveraging large language models, physics informed AI, and other data-driven design methods.
Responsibilities
Liaise with team lead and academic collaborators
Present innovative ideas in the project discovery phase
Build a research prototype and evaluate the results quantitatively and/or qualitatively with potential users
If necessary, build a dataset for training or evaluation
Leverage and expand existing machine learning architectures
Communicate findings clearly and effectively to a broader audience through presentations and possibly a publication
Minimum Qualifications
Pursuing a PhD or M.Sc in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Applied Math
Experience with programming (Python)
Experience with design, 3D CAD, product design software
Experience with machine learning, large language models
Experience publishing to academic journals and conferences
About the US Intern Program
The 2025 U.S. program runs for 12 weeks (May 19 – August 8 or June 16 – September 5). All internships are paid. As an intern, you will contribute to meaningful projects, be mentored by industry leaders, and participate in tech talks and other activities designed to support your personal and professional development. Our internships align with Autodesk’s Flexible Workplace approach, which is designed to meet the needs of our business while providing flexibility in support of office, remote and hybrid work preferences.

Salary Transparency
Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive compensation package. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience, educational level, and geographic location, and can exceed this range.
For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting annualized intern base salary to be between:
$47,840 and $95,680 (undergraduate students)$72,800 and $118,500 (Masters/MBA students)$118,560 and $162,240 (PhD students)Equal Employment Opportunity
