I.          GENERAL SUMMARY:

 Under the direct supervision of medical technologists and supervisors, this position performs routine laboratory procedures in compliance with established standards and policies.

II.        PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Performs routine procedures on blood and body fluid specimens, including reagent and sample preparation.

Maintains quality control and performs simple preventative maintenance on instrumentation in the laboratory as developed and established by the Supervisor.

Refers instrument problems and/or patient abnormalities to a supervisor.

Ensures compliance with all technical performance standards, procedures and policies as established by the Supervisor.

Performs clerical and other duties as assigned by a Supervisor.

Participates in departmental rotation schedule, which may include working assignments during the evening and/or weekend shifts.

Performs other similar job related duties as required or directed.

III.       JOB REQUIREMENTS:

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Good interpersonal skills.

EDUCATION:

Level of knowledge generally obtained through completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.  Must be enrolled in a Medical Technology Degree Program at an accredited college or university.

EXPERIENCE:

Experience in medical technology or related area preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above, may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.

V.         WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Works in a laboratory setting.

Exposure to hazardous and infectious agents requiring practicing Universal Precautions.

Fast paced environment.
