Position Summary The Pharmacist Intern, under the guidance of the Pharmacists, assists in the preparation, distribution, monitoring, safe handling of the drug inventory, maintenance of records as assigned, and serves as an education resource for staff and patients.  A pharmacist intern shall be supervised at all times while performing the functions of a pharmacist intern which may include all aspects of the practice of pharmacy unless otherwise restricted. Minimum Qualifications Education

Currently enrolled or graduated from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)  accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program and in good academic standing

Credentials

Active registration, in good standing, with the Nebraska Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacist Intern prior to start date.

 

GPH Required/Preferred: None Physical Demands Frequent walking/standing—worker is on his/her feet the majority of the day to perform direct or indirect duties. Must have the skills and ability to bend/stoop, lift/carry, push/pull, balance, must have handling and manual dexterity, and must be able to speak/hear/see to perform the job. Must be able to lift/handle supplies weighing up to 50 pounds as well as perform reaching motions greater than shoulder height in removing items from shelves. Essential Functions Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, storing medications and supplies in appropriate locations. Packages medications, restocks items in the dispensing areas, identifies and fills replacement items in floor stock areas, crash carts, automated devices, etc. Prepares sterile products including large volume items and piggyback items. Picks up orders, requisitions, and medications for return from patient care areas when making delivery rounds throughout the day. Generates reports and re-dispenses labels as required. Answers telephone, identifying self and the department, directs calls to appropriate staff, responds to customers at the front counter and makes deliveries when requested. Tracks expiration dates for medications within the pharmacy department and patient care areas and removes expiring medications from all areas of the facility. Must work with the understanding that Pharmacist have the responsibility for over site of the work of Pharmacist Intern as specified by State Law and are responsible to perform work related requests/tasks as assigned by the pharmacists. Under the supervision of a Pharmacist, a Pharmacist Intern may administer vaccines. Under the supervision of a Pharmacist, a Pharmacist Intern may provide patient counseling and drug information for patients and staff, and document chart notes when cosigned by a Pharmacist.
