JOB PURPOSE: 

Learn and improve network security skills and gain knowledge about day-to-day security operations in a business environment. Assist the Network Security department in protecting company information assets by completing projects that will improve the overall security of the organization. An intern in the security area will gain a working understanding of the business case for network security and become familiar with network security operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Regularly analyze network traffic to identify unusual patterns or potential security threats. Assist in responding to security incidents, including identifying, analyzing, and mitigating threats. Assist in the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of security equipment and software. Inventory, document, and evaluate the security status of network-attached devices. Stay updated on the latest intelligence, including hackers’ methodologies, to anticipate security breaches. Maintain detailed documentation of security incidents, procedures, and protocols. Provide weekly, monthly, and annual reports as necessary. Attend meetings to learn about business practices, internal processes, and procedures. Be willing to work on special projects as assigned. Communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers. Adhere to privacy guidelines to ensure each customer’s privacy. Maintain regular attendance.

Effectively communicate with other departments to handle escalating issues in a timely manner.  Support the mission, vision and values of Midco.  Collaborate effectively with internal and external customers to ensure exceptional service. Demonstrate courage by tackling tough issues while acknowledging own limitations without compromising integrity.   Remove obstacles for team members. Encourage creative solutions.    Apply personal ethics, honesty, initiative, flexibility, responsibility and confidentiality in all areas of responsibility.  Communicate clear expectations that set a high bar while holding team members accountable to reach these goals.  Demonstrate business acumen by using data to drive decisions and actions.  Model flexibility, resiliency and change management skills by staying self-aware, constantly learning, and finding ways to cut through ambiguous problems.          Identify root causes of problems and implement solutions while keeping a holistic and long-term perspective in mind.  Actively follow Midco policies and procedures.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

Minimum Certification of Associate’s degree in Computers, Technology or related field, or in third or fourth year pursuing a degree in Information Security, Systems, Technology or related field. Knowledge and familiarity with network, computer, and application security best practices. Preferred technical knowledge or experience with: UNIX/Linux, MS Windows, Active Directory, Digital Certificates, SSL, VPN, IPSec, TCP/IP, DNS, web security architectures, Nessus. Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Word required and experience with Excel and PowerPoint preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch The noise level in the work environment is moderate. Employees may be required to work in excess of 40 hours per week and other than normal business hours, such as holidays, evenings and weekends as business demands.
