Intern - Project Engineering

Position Summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Project Engineering Intern to join our projects team focused on building utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience and contribute to various phases of our BESS projects, working closely with experienced engineers and project managers. This role offers a unique opportunity to learn about cutting-edge energy storage technologies, renewable energy integration, and large-scale infrastructure development.

 

Essential Functions

Assist in Project Planning: Support the project engineering team in the development of project schedules, resource planning, and design coordination for utility-scale BESS projects. Technical Support: Provide technical assistance in reviewing designs, schematics, and specifications related to electrical, mechanical, and control systems. Assist in ensuring designs meet industry standards and project requirements. Documentation: Help prepare and organize project documentation, including engineering drawings, reports, and equipment specifications. Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of project progress. Vendor Coordination: Assist in coordinating with suppliers and contractors to ensure timely delivery of equipment and materials. Support the engineering team in evaluating vendor proposals and reviewing technical submittals. Site Visits: Participate in site visits to observe construction and installation activities. Assist with on-site inspections, and support the engineering team in ensuring that construction activities adhere to design specifications and safety standards. Problem Solving: Work with the project team to identify and resolve technical challenges that arise during the design, procurement, or construction phases of the project. Commissioning Support: Provide support during the commissioning phase of BESS projects, including helping with system testing, data collection, and documentation of results. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with various teams, including design engineers, construction managers, and commissioning specialists, to ensure successful project execution.

Other Responsibilities

Previous internship or project experience related to energy systems, renewable energy, or large-scale infrastructure projects. Familiarity with energy storage technologies and power systems.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field. Strong interest in energy storage, renewable energy, and large-scale infrastructure projects. Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, with coursework or project experience in energy systems being a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and basic CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD). Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think analytically and work collaboratively in a team environment. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with attention to detail. Willingness to travel to project sites and participate in field activities.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to work in an office environment. This job requires sitting and/or standing for long periods of time with moderate bending, stooping and kneeling. The ability to work at a computer and computer monitor for long periods of time and stay alert. This position requires sitting 80% of the time and standing and walking 20% of the time.

Must have the ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds without assistance
