Intern - R&D

We are seeking an Intern – R&D to join our Summer 2025 Internship program! The position requires basic laboratory techniques in handling, weighing and bench / pilot processing of experimental excipients and testing at a bench scale in finished consumable nutraceutical formats. Analytical testing and data collection necessary for executing experimental trials is also required. The intern will be assigned a primary project for the length of the position and will assist as required with other day to day tasks. The Intern will interact with technical, marketing, sales and other staff within the Pharma Business Unit as well as the St. Louis Colors site.

What you’ll do:

Conduct laboratory testing on assigned projects. Manage time to complete tasks based on daily, weekly and project timelines.  Participate in daily tasks support such as sample fulfillment, sensory tasting or lab sample restocking.  Periodically present key observations from projects to the technical team with conclusions and recommendations for further work.  Develop composition and functional understanding of excipients used in assigned projects. Develop ability to conduct assigned analytical testing independently. Follow all laboratory and safety procedures.

What you’ll bring:

Enrolled for at least on year in a university program (B.S. or higher) in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Food Science or related scientific discipline required. Scientific laboratory exposure, preferably with consumable or personal use components, (e.g., protein, starch, fats & oils).  Experience with basic laboratory equipment such as pH meters, balances, mixers, rheometer, colorimeter, spectrophotometer, etc.  Ability to maintain accurate notebooks, collect and interpret analytical data; statistical analysis preferred.  Good English language skills (both fluent in spoken and written).
