Ideal Candidate: Graduate or PhD student in Public Health or similar
The regulatory analyst intern will support the Legislative Affairs Team in tracking and analyzing state and federal legislation and regulations with possible impacts on the company and its clients. The analyst will survey existing and emerging legislation for potential impacts and opportunities, synthesize and summarize legislative requirements, and be able to explain and communicate the requirements to internal and external customers through written documents and presentations.
Key Responsibilities
Support Legislative Affairs in tracking state and federal legislation and regulations with possible impacts and opportunities for the company.
Analyze legislation and regulations and summarize and detail the requirements and policy intent.
Research, investigate and report on potential impacts of legislation/regulations to the company or its customers.
Support Compliance in working with the company’s business units to assure product/solution compliance.
Present summaries and details through different modes of communication, including written briefings, spreadsheets, presentations and trainings, and graphic depictions to a range of target audiences. Support Legislative Affairs in preparing educational material for external clients as well as the company’s marketing, account managers, sales, operations, legal and compliance, and other internal customers.
Execute in-depth research projects where specific legislative policies or requirements across federal agencies or state governments are researched, summarized and maintained, for example, state surprise balance billing laws.
Carry out other tasks that require a basic understanding of regulatory, legal or compliance processes. Most responsibilities will require coordination between those three teams, plus serving as a liaison to business units.
Competencies
At least 2 years’ experience in research, critical thinking, text and document analysis, and drafting summaries/commentaries/theses.
Experience in technical, creative or journalistic writing, teaching/training and presenting on complex subjects. Ability to contribute, develop, articulate, author and communicate thoughtful, well-organized information, data and concepts in discussions, presentations, decision analysis and options and justifications.
General knowledge of federal and state government legislative processes.
Experience in law or political science – or drafting or analyzing legislative and regulatory texts – a plus.
Some knowledge or interest in healthcare law, policies or issues a plus.
Some knowledge or interest in healthcare billing and payment operations or revenue cycle management a plus.
Experience using MS Office tools particularly PowerPoint.
