Job Title: Youth Mentor (Intern)

Job Summary:

The Project Amp Youth Mentor provides youth aged 13-17 in any setting (i.e. office, community, etc.), structured, one-to-one, strength-based support services for the purpose of administering Project Amp curriculum to prevent substance use. Project AMP curriculum is strengths-focused, person-centered, and allows for unique mentorship experience where youth identify and are encouraged to use their community and academic supports to set and achieve personal goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Professionally execute Project Amp curriculum to youth in community or office settings, discussing sensitive topics such as mental & physical health and wellness, substance use, goal setting, etc. Act as a trusted adult and positive role model for youth engaged in Project Amp workshops, sessions, and advisory councils. Direct time with youth engaged in activities; in-office and in the community that are designed to address one or more aspects of Project Amp curriculum. Maintains phone and face-to-face consultation with youth on a regular basis (i.e. at least weekly and as often as necessary) Awareness and sensitivity to contextual variables such as race, culture, gender, sexuality, disability, economics, and lived experience. Submit detailed progress reports and follow curriculum guidelines. Assist Program Director with Youth Advisory Council, Wellness Weekend Preparation and other tasks as needed. Frequency: Meet with Youth for 5-7 1-hour sessions weekly, as agreed upon by mentor and mentee. Capacity: Caseload not to exceed 6 youth at any given time.

Minimum Qualifications:

Degree Required: Must possess a minimum of a high school diploma/GED. Driver’s License and auto, and proper auto insurance required. 2 year’s minimum required experience (volunteering or working with youth) Bilingual Preferred (Spanish/English) Must be between 18 and 24 years of age.
