In this position, you’ll perform a variety of audits over educational institutions ranging from K-12 schools to community colleges. The Internal Auditor assists the Internal Audit Manager and Director in the planning and performance of audits and investigations, including reporting the results. This role specializes in grant compliance. You will monitor grant subrecipients for grants administered through the State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education (SBCCOE), including the Perkins Act and the Colorado Technical Act. You will perform reviews of grant subrecipients by reviewing expenditures reimbursed by the grant to determine whether they are valid expenditures of the program. The Internal Auditor communicates with audit clients including college presidents, superintendents, and administrative personnel to obtain information relevant to the audit. This position also assists the Internal Audit department’s Compliance Specialist, by conducting site visits with the Compliance Specialist, documenting, and reporting on the results, and performing follow-up with subrecipients to determine whether corrections are implemented. + Performs a wide variety of audits including compliance audits, process reviews, financial analysis, and investigations. + Reviews expenditures of Career and Technical Education dollars for allowability, adequate supporting documentation and proper approvals. + Assists in the planning of audits including development and updating of audit program guides. + Performs analyses of business processes, identifies weaknesses, and recommends feasible solutions. + Performs research and interprets complex federal, state, and CCCS policies and procedures to perform testwork and to advise on compliance issues. + Communicates and works with audit clients to understand complex processes well enough to inform the audit team and answer questions about the process. + Ensures, through efficient project management, that established deadlines are met. Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights + Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. + One year of auditing, accounting, finance, or business experience. Supplemental Information Attributes that will contribute to success in this position: + Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook or similar computer-related applications. + Excellent attention to detail to spot patterns, identify potential risks, and propose improvements. + Strong aptitude for analytical and critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills. + Ability to research applicable guidance and apply it to a situation. + Success with assessing compliance with established internal controls or regulations, following instructions and documenting results. + Success communicating results of assessments of compliance in writing and verbally. + Ability to write reports clearly and concisely, communicating applicable guidance as well as the results of the review. Knowledge and use of proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. + Excellent verbal communication skills; ability to use tact and professionalism to deliver information. + Success documenting and evaluating business processes. + Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, organize work, and meet deadlines. + Possessing self-initiative and self-motivation; ability to work independently as well as part of an audit team. Work Location/Travel Expectations: + Working location is 9101 E. Lowry Blvd Denver, CO 80230. + Must possess a valid driver’s license or obtain one before the end of your first 90 days of employment. + Must be willing and able to travel within the State of Colorado up to 25% of the time. Audits often require travel to various colleges and school districts within the state; at times, travel is necessary with little notice. + Alternative work arrangements, including flexible schedules and hybrid-remote work, may be available. Work must be completed within the state of Colorado.
