Join a warm and caring team of dedicated professionals at Mount Auburn Hospital, where you’ll experience the comforting atmosphere of a community hospital. Mount Auburn Hospital is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and has approximately 200 beds. It is affiliated with Harvard Medical School and features ten operating rooms that are staffed Monday through Friday, with evening hours and minimal on-call requirements during nights, weekends, and holidays. Staff members work 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts. New hires rotate throughout various specialties during a structured orientation to develop multi-specialty skills. Surgical specialties include cardiac, ENT, general surgery, gynecology, orthopedics, plastics, vascular, and more.
The Internal Temporary Traveler Nurse Staffing Program participant must adhere to the agreed upon scheduling parameters of the program. These are 90 day assignment increments. Reporting to the unit’s Nurse Manager, the Registered Nurse works collaboratively with members of the Care Team to ensure that patients receive exceptional, high quality, patient-centered nursing care that meets their individual needs.
**Job Description:**
**Essential Duties & Responsibilities** (including but not limited to):
Provides direct care to patients and makes necessary nursing judgments. Responsible for assessing the health care needs of patients for the formulation of a care plan, its implementation and evaluation. Demonstrates the ability for decision-making by integrating theoretical knowledge with practical experience in caring for patients.
Coordinates the care of patients and directs assistive personnel in order to provide safe, effective, efficient, equitable and timely, patient-centered care. Demonstrates awareness of environmental forces on health care of patients and their families. Demonstrates the ability to identify resources necessary to implement the plan of care.
Works in a collaborative relationship with other health professionals to determine healthcare needs of patients and families. Develops relationships with patients and families that maintain and communicate trust and respect. Communicates effectively in the exchange of information. Demonstrate the ability to act as a patient advocate.
Education is planned and provided according to care plan and predicted Length of Stay for every patient who is alert and able to comprehend. Family members and care givers are included in education as appropriate. a. Participates in the development of educational materials/presentations for patients and/or significant others and documents outcome in the medical record. b. Ensures that patients and significant others receive education regarding discharge and the community services available.
Maintains annual mandatory education requirements, which include emergency skills and unit based competencies. Participates in quality improvement activities.
Demonstrates a commitment to patients, colleagues and Mount Auburn Hospital. The individual nursing practice reflects the goals of the Hospital. Demonstrates responsibility Participates in educational opportunities for professional growth, personal well-being and as required for license renewal.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required.
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred.
Minimum 2 years Nursing work experience required.
License Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required.
American Heart Association – Basic Life support Certificate required. ACLS required for some specific clinical units.
