Your role and responsibilitiesIn this role, you will have the opportunity to gain vocational experience through a temporary work placement (6 months). Each day, you will acquire knowledge by performing tasks as directed. You will also showcase your expertise by supporting ABB’s operations and enhancing personal education/employment opportunities.The work model for the role is: hybrid {LinkedIn #hybrid}In the R&D team in Turgi, we design and develop high-performance medium voltage power electronic drives for a wide range of power levels, from 5MW to 36MW. These drives are used in various applications, including metals, marine, mining, and oil and gas. Our drive control technology features the breakthrough Model Predictive Pulse Pattern Control (MP3C). The internship focuses on exploring drive control approaches and identifying challenges that arise in different applications and drive configurations.Your responsibilities will include:• Developing an understanding of 3 level power electronic converter and its modulation technique• Learning how the medium voltage drives are used in applications like Metals• Simulation and testing of the various modulation technique (source code will be in C++) and document its performance with different types of motor • Working with control experts to identify the root cause of the control/performance issue
Qualifications for the roleYou are currently enrolled in a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics or similar fieldYou are familiar with MATLAB and SimulinkYou are at ease communicating in EnglishStrong interest in research is desirableKnowledge of three level converter topology, modulation and control is a plusNon-EU/non-EFTA citizens, please note that a certificate from your university, showing that an internship is a mandatory part of your studies, is required for the visa application
