At Pratt & Whitney, we believe that powered flight has transformed and will continue to transform the world. That's why we work with an explorer's heart and a perfectionist’s grit to design, build, and service the world's most advanced aircraft engines. We do this across a diverse portfolio including Commercial Engines, Military Engines, Business Aviation, General Aviation, Regional Aviation, and Helicopter Aviation and as a way of turning possibilities into realities for our customers. This is how we at Pratt & Whitney approach our work, and this is why we are inspired to go beyond.
Whether you are currently pursuing a Master's or PhD degree, we can help you harness your potential, advance your skills and make the impossible a reality. If you are currently enrolled in a Canadian university, now is the moment to start a career path that can drive impact and innovation for generations to come.
At Pratt & Whitney, the difference you make is on display every day. Just look up. Are you ready to go beyond?

Our expectations:
Combustion Aerothermal Systems is one of the Combustion module departments within the Turbomachinery organization. The department is responsible for design and validation of the combustion section of turbofan, turboprop, and turboshaft engines. The aerothermal design process uses various numerical tools, including CFD simulations, with validation testing in rigs and engines. This internship will focus on improving the combustion CFD prediction process by evaluating and implementing improvements to batch meshing using PyFluent, parameterization and mesh optimization. Some preliminary evaluation of the impact of the mesh on NOx emissions predictions will also be explored.
The Combustion Aero/Thermal Analyst intern will have the following key responsibilities:
Use ANSYS Fluent Mesher to generate mesh then run combustion CFD simulationsEstablish a methodology for automatic meshing using PyFluentDevelop mesh Parameterization and Optimization guidelinesInvestigate the impact of the mesh characteristics on emissions prediction with primary focus on NOxSummarize and present findingsDocument the findings in reportsWhat your day to day will look like:
Generate, review and test CFD models/methodologies to develop guidelines as to the impact of mesh characteristics on predicted resultsSummarize and present findings to peersSupport improvement of the current CFD processWhat you need to be successful:
Must haves:
Be eligible to work in CanadaBe enrolled in a Canadian university throughout your internshipBe able to work on-site in the province where you are hiredPursuing a Master or PhD degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical Engineering or Physics Engineering Good oral and written communication skills in English (spoken/written). French is an asset.
