Weyerhaeuser’s Western Timberlands Operations has summer intern positions available in Washington and Oregon for 2025. The internships can be three to six months (depending on each operation’s needs and students' availability) and will involve hands-on field experience, office work, as well as the possibility of project assignments. Assignment Opportunities:
Forest Management – Potential to gain experience in site preparation, fire protection, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping, timber cruising/inventory, plantation audit work, planting inspections, aerial spray operations and animal damage control
Forest Engineering – Potential to perform tasks associated with field layout including: stream buffer marking and delineation, road layout and design, stream typing, unstable slope delineation, harvest unit design, map production (via GIS) and writing of forest practice application
Inventory/Planning/GIS – Potential to gain experience in maintaining and improving GIS spatial and tabular data accuracy, stand management exams, inventory data collection for crown closure, GPS, mobile maps, Web GIS, Esri’s ArcGIS, and harvest unit selection, design, and development of short and long-term plans
Western Regeneration – Opportunities to work as part of a nursery team implementing growing prescriptions and crop plans, tracking crop development, troubleshooting crop issues. Take part in field work including sowing, transplanting, cultural treatments, inventory, lifting and packing
Compensation:
For completing corresponding year prior to starting assignment: freshman $18.12/hr., sophomore $19.80/hr., junior $21.75/hr., first senior year of dual degree $22.25/hr., bachelor’s degree $23.95/hr., first year of masters $26.42/hr. In addition, we will pay mileage to and from the internship assignment and a $1,750 stipend to those that qualify and need assistance with temporary housing.
