**Description:**
Summary
St. Mary's Healthcare System is seeking to fill a PRN, as needed, Spanish Interpreter position for our hospital and outpatient facilities in Athens. Half days Mon-Sat as needed.
Provides consecutive language interpretation for limited English proficient patients and families whose primary language is Spanish.
Posting
Two-year associates degree or in progress of completing four **-** year degree and one year experience as a medical interpreter/ patient representative, customer service advocacy or related field in a hospital or clinical setting preferred. Certification in medical interpretation is required.
Qualified applicants should be proficient in all four modalities of both languages, English and Spanish (listening, speaking, reading, and writing). Compassionate and professional presence for accompanying and assisting patients in the clinical setting.
Assists with translation of medical documents and phone calls to patients regarding appointments and financial assistance matters. Assists in education and awareness of language services. Responsible for maintaining confidentiality of all patient information.
Job Description Purpose
Preferred minimum of two years of interpretation experience.
Responds to all requests for service via pager or phone in a timely manner. Prioritizes calls to meet urgent/emergency needs. Records services provided. Provides written translations as needed.
