Job Summary:

Acts as a liaison between English and limited-English speaking guests, staff and patients/families by providing oral interpretation, (LIMITED) written translation services, as well as staff education and training. Provides support and serves as a resource for other department functions.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Interprets for patients, families and staff in a variety of clinical and non-clinical settings. Forms of interpreting may include face to face, telephonic and video remote interpreting.Complies with all privacy and confidentiality policies when communicating patient information.Provides (LIMITED) translation of written documents, correspondence and patient education materials.Assists in explaining language access requirements/obligations and the cultural needs of diverse patient populations.Assists in the orientation and onboarding of new members of the regional language services team.Trains employees on regulatory requirements and the use of interpreter services through formal and informal training.  Coordinates, prioritizes and organizes daily activities to ensure effective support is provided to the staff and patients.Actively participates in department workgroups and improvement initiatives.Strictly adheres to the National Standards of Practice for Interpreters in Health Care and the Interpreter’s Code of Ethics.Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.Performs other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION

High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.


EXPERIENCE

One-year experienceSpanish Language

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.Frequent keyboard use/data entry.Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.Rare climbing.
