These guides will work with the Public Art and History/Archives divisions to give previously created tours (related to Boise History and to the city’s Public Art collection) to the public 3x weekly. The guide schedule will include Wednesday evenings and Saturdays from 9-1. Guides will receive training in the public art process, Boise’s public art collection, and Boise's history and culture. Essential Functions + Greeting and welcoming customers to the tour. + Informing customers about the itinerary for each tour. + Planning itineraries in accordance with weather forecasts and the length of each tour. + Familiarizing yourself with the tour content. + Familiarizing customers with tour content. + Encouraging guests to apply sunscreen regularly and to remain hydrated, if applicable. Prior experience as a tour guide is advantageous. + Directing customers to other, non-competing services that might be of interest to them. + Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training + Minimum 1 year of customer service experience + Excellent communication skills with a talent for storytelling + Personable and engaging with a good sense of humor + Creative thinker with strong improvisation skills + Highly organized with strong time management abilities + Comfortable working independently and making quick decisions + Physically able to stand and walk for extended periods + Availability to work evenings and weekends Special Requirements Applicants must be able to pass: City of Boise background check processes which include a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation Working Conditions The physical effort characteristics and working environment described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Physical Efforts While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds. Also, the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 10 pounds. Working Environment The work environment will include inside conditions and outdoor weather conditions. 19-Hour Temporary All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits. 4-Month Temporary All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment. 8-Month Seasonal In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage. 9-Month Temporary In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
