Summary:
The Interventional Procedural Technologist assist physicians with catheter and wire insertion/placement, set-up and maintenance of the sterile field, and operation of imaging systems in the Interventional Suites. The Technologist supports patient care for all procedural modalities in the department including, but not limited to, Interventional Radiology (IR), Invasive Cardiology (CCL), Electrophysiology (EP), Peripheral Vascular, and Neurointerventional.
Experience/Education Requirements:
Graduate of AMA and accredited program in medical imaging. Associates degree in radiologic sciences preferred.Preferred minimum 1 year work experience as a radiology technologist. Additional consideration given for interventional experience in cardiac catheterization, radiology special procedures, or neuroangiography. Responsibilities:
· Observes and maintains sterile field requirements and instrument/ supply handling techniques
· Competently selects and operates radiographic equipment and/or associated accessories
· Uses collimation as appropriate and applies principles of radiation safety to minimize risk to patient, others and self
· May assist in hemodynamic monitoring and recording on current system
· Prepares, identifies and/or administers contrast media according to protocol
· Maintains archival storage (PACS/CPACS) of digital images as appropriate
· Conducts post procedural sheath removal and/or access site care
· Responds to all unit and/or patient emergencies
· Conducts staff, patient, and family education
· Participates in quality assessment and improvement
· May assist in patient admission process, post-procedural care, transportation of patients throughout the facility and patient discharge
