Interventional Pulmonology Respiratory Therapist PRN

The Interventional Pulmonology Respiratory Therapist is responsible for assisting physicians in diagnosing and treating diseases including lung cancer and non-malignant diseases of the lung, airway, and pleural spaces. Using a multi-disciplinary approach, this position specializes in the advanced care of patients undergoing interventional bronchoscopy and pleural procedures using the latest minimally invasive techniques in the Bronchoscopy and Interventional Pulmonary Lab.

Job Responsibilities 

  Performs pre-procedure assessment. Reviews pre-procedural patient information including H & P, medications, allergies. Coordinates planned care with other healthcare team members. Displays a strong foundation in physiology along with a strong understanding of the respiratory system Implements principles of aseptic technique utilizing a thorough knowledge of basic infection control practices. Implements knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic scopes and high-level disinfection process. Ensures safety by knowledge of the organization's policies and procedures, especially those pertaining to the bronchoscopy suite, safety, security, fire, emergency, and biomedical. Provides clinical services according to pulmonary/cardiac practice standards and acts as a resource to the interventional pulmonologist and other staff to ensure optimal patient care and efficient departmental operations. Adheres to department policies and protocols to ensure that all procedures are optimized for patient care and diagnosis/treatment. Demonstrates patient safety by use of guard rails, braking mechanisms, shielding, safety straps, and patient monitoring. Demonstrates competency in managing data. Tracks cases, billing for procedures, inventory and equipment. Maintains accurate and complete case logs. Documents procedures concisely, completely, and in line with EMR policy lay down by the institution. Recognizes clinical and emergent problems that may interfere with procedures and take appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome. Assists physician during all diagnostic and interventional procedures using standard department protocols, appropriate radiation protection, sterile technique, and infection control practices. Assists anesthesiologist during intubation and emergency situations. Ensures equipment is operational and notifies appropriate personnel for service and repair. Proficient with troubleshooting equipment issues during procedures. Provides interventional pulmonary services including advanced diagnostic bronchoscopy (EBUS, navigational bronchoscopy, robotic bronchoscopy), therapeutic bronchoscopy for benign and malignant disease (including foreign body removal, airway stenting, bronchoplasty, cryo spray, Argon plasma coagulation), endobronchial valve placement, bronchial thermoplasty, thoracentesis, medical pleuroscopy, placement and management of indwelling pleural catheters, pleurodesis. Routinely records data for the QI processes within the department Administers advanced respiratory care therapeutics and diagnostic services with a high level of skill and proficiency including Nebulizer treatment, high flow set up, Ventilator &Bipap initiation, obtain ABG and implementing broncho hygienic therapy techniques. May apply additional duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited CoARC (The Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) respiratory care program 5 years’ experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. 3 of those years must be in critical care; additional experience can be in critical care, advanced diagnostics with multiple age populations or home health. RRT Upon Start BLS from AHA Upon Start  ACLS from AHA Upon Start  In addition, must possess one of the following: an additional Advance Certification (PALS) or an Advanced Credential (ACCS, AEC, NPS, RPFT, CPFT or SDS) or a relevant bachelor's degree
