Intraoperative and Procedural Clinical Program Manager [Educator and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS)]
Under general supervision, develops clinical expertise and offers educational programs directed at expanding and enhancing nursing and ancillary staff knowledge and clinical practice. Collaborates with clinical managers, clinical specialists, and clinical leadership to plan, implement, and evaluate programs to meet identified needs of the organization. Serves as organizational resource to ensure evidenced-based practice, and facilitate optimal patient outcomes within GBMC healthcare system. Contributes to the achievement of the hospital’s mission through the development and leadership of performance improvement activities in the operational and clinical arenas related to ERAS and other quality and regulatory indicators. Assures continual compliance with agreed upon patient pathways and regulatory compliance through the monitoring of patient care activities and the regulatory data. Uses Lean methodology and adaptation of process flow to design and implement strategies to enhance compliance and improve patient outcomes.

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required with a commitment to obtain a Master’s degree in 5 years
Licensures/Certifications:
Must possess current Maryland State license as a Registered Nurse.

Certification as C.P.R. instructor by American Heart Association preferred

Completion of "Healthcare Provider" CPR course, every (2) years

Obtain certification as a professional development specialist within 4 years of hire
Experience:
At least five (5) years experience in Nursing with two (2) years concurrent experience applying educational concepts, including program planning and evaluation. Minimum 3 years of relevant experience within a Healthcare organization demonstrating progressive leadership. Experience with quality improvement initiatives and research projects preferred. Excellent mentoring, training, coaching, and effective communication skills required.
Skills:
• Knowledge of nursing and adult educational theories in order to assess, plan, implement and evaluate quality educational programs.

• Analytical skills necessary in order to develop and evaluate educational programs and assess learning needs of staff.

• Substantial interpersonal skills required to effectively interact with staff, physicians, patients, and family members.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Staff Development/ Competency

• Assessment

• Develops and conducts learning needs assessment to staff annually

• Validates identified needs with key stakeholders

• Documents evidence of professional practice gaps in a manner that facilitates the educational planning process

• Collects data systematically and purposefully from a variety of sources including, direct observation of nursing practice, nurses and the inter-professional healthcare team, professional organizations, regulatory agencies, consumers, healthcare experts, health-related trends, key stakeholders, and legislative venues.

• Prioritizes data collection activities based on the immediate or anticipated needs of the situation including alignment with organizational strategic goals.

Planning

• Develops outcomes that reflect competency, learning and change

• Develops content reflective of the expected outcomes of the current evidence.

• Uses adult learning concepts and instructional design principles when planning an activity

• Respects diversity by implementing cultural, ethnic, generational, and other differences when developing learning.

Implementation

• Implements a learning plan/ competency in a coordinated and timely manner

• Adjusts materials and teaching strategies appropriate to the situation and the learner’s developmental; level, learning needs, readiness, ability to learn, language preference and culture.

Facilitation

• Facilitates education of learners to meet their professional development needs.

• Integrates learning resources into programs that address health and a healthy work environment

• Role models practices for creating and sustaining positive learning and practice environments

Consultation

• Synthesizes data and information, while incorporating conceptual or theoretical frameworks when providing consultation.

• Establishes formal and informal consultative relationships that may lead to professional development or mentorship opportunities.

• Develops recommendations and strategies to address problems and complex issues.

Evaluation

• Uses valid and relevant methods and instruments to measure processes and outcomes.

• Revises learning activities based on evaluation data

Orientation

• Participates in the development and provision of clinical orientation through formal education and preceptor programs.

• Participates in competency-based orientation and preceptor programs for nursing, while adhering to the standards of care and principals of adult education

• Participates in orientation and education initiatives supported by the Center for Nursing Excellence

Informatics

• Works with quality improvement initiatives to improve staff adherence to correct protocols, better management of knowledge and information, enhanced decision making and communication

• Facilitates e-learning of hospice content including best practices, meeting regulatory requirements and Join Commission standards

• Participate in evaluating and selecting new technology

Committees

• Participates in standing hospital committees

Development of Evidence-Based Clinical Policies & Procedures

• Develops age specific and departmental clinical standards, policies and procedures.

• Provides leadership for collaborative, evidenced-based revision of departmental guidelines, protocols, policies and procedures to improve patient outcomes.

• Provides consultation to staff, and interdisciplinary colleagues

ERAS Clinical Program Manager Functions:

• Coordinates/facilitates ERAS multidisciplinary conferences.

• Coordinates performance improvement efforts related to ERAS.

• Facilitates implementation of ERAS across GBMC.

• Serves as real time problem solver to ERAS patient and staff to ensure ongoing compliance with ERAS pathways

• Abstracts data elements to support ERAS program to facilitate performance monitoring. Designs and implements strategies aimed at improving the hospital’s performance in operations or clinical quality.

• Identifies opportunities for improved performance.

• Analyzes data to identify adverse trends and/or undesirable performance.

• Utilizes performance improvement techniques and methodologies.

• Designs and implements strategies for enhancing compliance with ERAS pathways and improved clinical outcomes.

• Evaluates effectiveness of improvement strategy through sustained monitoring of performance.

• Contributes to the establishment of performance improvement priorities for all departments and functional units affected by ERAS initiative.

• Produces reports and presentations on performance improvement and compliance.

• Develops, maintains and enhances knowledge through orientation, self-evaluation and professional development.

• Responsibilities may include varying levels of strategic planning as well as human and fiscal resource management.

• Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Pay Range

$81,683.34 - $137,034.08

Final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.
